Technical Director
Hi, I’m Matthew, CTO at Customer.io. I believe that one of the very few true moats a SaaS company can create is a high pace of innovation. To fuel this, I’m looking for a seasoned technical leader with a proven background of bringing zero to one initiatives to market traction. You will be hands on writing code on the vanguard of our innovative engine, shaping technical direction of major initiatives. I’m looking for someone who role models a founder mindset of connecting engineering possibility with customer needs and business opportunities.
You will work cross-functionally with leadership and engineering teams to set direction, solve complex technical challenges, and spearhead new initiatives. As a technical authority and customer expert, you’ll help shape the product’s evolution while owning the challenges of launching concepts into a competitive market. This will begin as an individual contributor engineering role, with potential to evolve into leadership as projects mature. It’s intended for someone who thrives in environments where they can define and lead innovation projects.
As Technical Director at Customer.io, you will bring…
- Technical Strategy & Execution: Lead the development of major pieces of our product, responsible for technical strategy, aligning it with the company’s overall vision and goals.
- Innovation Leadership: Leverage your experience as a technical leader to introduce and advocate for innovative technologies, frameworks, and practices.
- Architectural Excellence: Design and influence major architectural decisions when introducing new capabilities, ensuring our platform remains scalable, secure, and performant with adoption.
- Cross-functional Collaboration: Work closely with product, design, engineering, and leadership teams to translate business needs into technical strategies and ensure alignment on key projects.
- Mentorship & Thought Leadership: Act as a mentor to team members, fostering a culture of continuous learning and technical excellence. Share insights and best practices, and contribute to the overall growth of the organization.
- Problem Solving: Take ownership of complex technical challenges and lead development of these initiatives to drive competitive advantage in our product offerings.
- Scaling New Projects: Partner with product development squads to ensure long term ownership of the things you introduce, tackling the knowledge-sharing and scaling challenges of tech transfer.
- Influence Without Authority: As an individual contributor, you will work with teams across the company to guide decisions and set direction, without initially having direct management responsibility.
We’re looking for someone with…
- 10+ years of software engineering experience, with at least 5 years in a senior technical leadership, CTO, or founder role: You have a track record of successfully founding or growing software companies, launching complex technical products from scratch.
- Demonstrated ability to lead high-impact innovation projects from inception to traction. Has successfully transferred ownership of these projects for long term ownership.
- Deep Technical Expertise: You have knowledge of modern software architecture, cloud platforms, distributed systems, and what to do as scaling challenge arise.
- Innovative Problem Solver: You have a passion for solving complex, high-impact problems with creativity and an outside-the-box approach.
- Strong Communication Skills: You can distill complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders and influence teams through clear and effective communication.
- Entrepreneurial Mindset: You bring a founder’s mentality, balancing risk, innovation, and the pragmatic needs of a growing business.
