To develop a dynamic, integrated view of biological systems in health and disease, the Chan Zuckerberg Institute for Advanced Biological Imaging (CZ Imaging Institute) aims to push forward the development and application of new imaging technologies over the next 10 to 15 years. The Opportunity

Researchers will collaboratively develop breakthrough biological imaging systems centered around grand challenges that push the boundaries of what we can see and measure.

We are seeking a Scientist with a strong background in structural biology to join our Organelle Structure Team. The ideal candidate will have expertise in cryo-electron tomography (cryoET) data processing and subtomogram averaging. This role offers the chance to contribute to groundbreaking research in organelle structure and function, collaborating within a highly multidisciplinary and supportive team.

Our team provides access to state-of-the-art facilities and large, high-quality cryoET datasets, enabling any team members to make an immediate impact. While wet lab skills and experience in cryoET data collection are advantageous, they are not mandatory.

What You’ll Do

• Support the data processing pipeline team in establishing a robust pipeline for high-resolution subtomogram averaging utilizing our large-scale datasets.
• Apply the pipeline to derive high-resolution structures of protein complexes within organelle contexts.
• Provide constructive feedback to the sample preparation and data collection teams to ensure optimal data quality and consistency.
• Learn and integrate new data processing tools and techniques to remain at the forefront of the field.

What You’ll Bring

Essential –

• A PhD in Structural Biology, Biochemistry, Cell Biology, or a closely related field, with a focus on cryoET.
• At least 2 years of relevant experience in image processing pipelines tailored for cryoET, especially in subtomogram averaging and segmentation.
• Experience with python and bash scripting.

Nice to have –

• Wet lab skills and experience with cryoET data collection.
• Experience in cryoEM single particle analysis.
• Proficiency in atomic model building.
• Relevant post-graduate research experience.

Compensation

• Salary Range = $108,000 - $148,500

New hires are typically hired into the lower portion of the range, enabling employee growth in the range over time. To determine starting pay, we consider multiple job-related factors including a candidate’s skills, education and experience, market demand, business needs, and internal parity.
