To develop a dynamic, integrated view of biological systems in health and disease, the Chan Zuckerberg Institute for Advanced Biological Imaging (CZ Imaging Institute) aims to push forward the development and application of new imaging technologies over the next 10 to 15 years. CZ Imaging Institute researchers will collaboratively develop breakthrough biological imaging systems centered around grand challenges that push the boundaries of what we can see and measure to obtain deep insights into the architecture of complex biological systems at the molecular level.

As an extension of the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative’s Imaging program, the CZ Imaging Institute (https://czii.org/) will create breakthrough technologies — hardware, software, biological probes, data, and platforms — that will be made available to the scientific community and adopted worldwide through a combination of direct access to the Institute, open sharing of advances, and commercial partnerships.

The Opportunity 

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented data management professional to oversee our organization's data infrastructure, storage, performance tracking and support data curation and management of the CZII CryoET Data Portal. The ideal candidate will possess strong technical skills, strategic thinking, and a comprehensive understanding of data management principles.

What You’ll Do

  • Data Storage Management

    • Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive data storage policies and guidelines incorporating best strategies in data archiving
    • Monitor and track data usage across the organization, including planning and executing storage infrastructure upgrades optimizing for storage efficiency and performance
    • Conduct regular audits of data storage systems

    Data Curation and Portal Management

    • Curate data to CZII CryoET data portal
    • Ensure data quality, completeness, and accessibility
    • Organize and prepare datasets for effective sharing and research use
    • Maintain metadata standards and documentation

    Performance Metrics and Tracking

    • Design and develop performance metrics for CZII-wide data operations
    • Create dashboards and reporting tools to visualize data performance
    • Continuously track and analyze data management key performance indicators (KPIs)
    • Identify bottlenecks and propose optimization strategies
    • Prepare regular reports on data storage utilization, performance, and trends
    • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to improve data management processes

What You’ll Bring

Essential –

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field
  • 3-5 years of professional data management experience 
  • Proficiency in Linux and Python scripting
  • Exceptional organizational skills
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
  • Ability to develop and implement data management strategies
  • Excellent communication skills

Nice to have - 

  • Linux system administration experience
  • Professional certifications in data management or related technologies
  • Database management skills
  • Experience handling and processing massive datasets
  • Expertise in image data management and processing
  • Knowledge of data storage architectures and technologies
  • Familiarity with cloud storage solutions
  • Understanding of data security and compliance protocols

Compensation

The Redwood City, CA  base pay range for this role is $116,000.00 - $148,500.00.  New hires are typically hired into the lower portion of the range, enabling employee growth in the range over time. Actual placement in range is based on job-related skills and experience, as evaluated throughout the interview process.
