
Test Engineer - Trackside
Purpose
Czinger Vehicles is seeking a highly motivated Test Engineer – Trackside to join our engineering team. This hands-on role is ideal for an entry-level engineer who is passionate about high-performance vehicles and thrives in fast-paced environments. You will be responsible for operating and monitoring vehicles during development testing, performing in-vehicle calibrations, acquiring and analyzing test data, and supporting the integration and flashing of control modules.
This role requires strong familiarity with automotive data acquisition systems, vehicle telemetry, and hands-on work with electrical components such as wiring harnesses, sensors, and connectors. You will work closely with cross-functional teams to validate key vehicle systems and contribute to the development of innovative powertrain and chassis technologies.
The Role
Test Execution
- Assist in setting up measurement equipment, utilizing various sensors and data loggers.
- Flash ECUs and update control modules using OEM and proprietary tools.
- Collaborate closely with calibration, controls, and validation engineers to ensure test readiness and technical accuracy.
- Ensure all tests are executed accurately, efficiently, and in compliance with safety standards.
- Support validation efforts at proving grounds, track tests, and promotional events, both domestic and international.
- Operate vehicles during structured test procedures and assist in calibration and data collection efforts.
Data Analysis and Reporting
- Set up, monitor, and maintain data acquisition and telemetry systems.
- Collect, analyze, and report test results in a clear, structured format.
- Identify, troubleshoot, and resolve issues arising during testing activities.
- Support in-vehicle diagnostics and software validation workflows.
- Perform troubleshooting and hands-on modifications to harnesses, sensors, and electrical hardware.
Continuous Improvement
- Identify opportunities for improving testing processes, methodologies, and equipment.
- Stay updated on industry advancements and incorporate best practices into the testing program.
- Lead initiatives to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of the testing team.
Basic Qualifications
- B.S. in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent hands-on experience).
- Proficiency with automotive data acquisition tools (e.g., CANape, INCA, MoTeC, AIM, etc.).
- Experience working with telemetry systems and CAN-based communication (CAN, LIN, FlexRay).
- Hands-on experience building or troubleshooting electrical systems including harnesses, sensors, and module interfaces.
- Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to work independently in a dynamic test environment.
- Willingness to travel frequently to test sites, racetracks, and vehicle events.
Preferred Qualifications
- Active participation in Formula SAE (FSAE) or a comparable hands-on university engineering program.
- Exposure to in-vehicle calibration, powertrain testing, or vehicle dynamics development.
- Experience with Powertrain Control Systems.
- Experience with ECU flashing and diagnostic tools (e.g., Vector, ETAS, OEM-specific tools).
Work Environment
- In-office and field-based, including proving grounds, race circuits, and test tracks.
- Travel up to 60% domestic/international based on program needs.
Pay Range
$91,800 - $126,200 USD
