
Senior Powertrain Controls Engineer
Purpose
Czinger’s first production vehicle, the Czinger 21C, is a groundbreaking 3D printed hybrid hypercar with a combined powertrain output of over 1250BHP. Our in-house developed 2.9L V8 Twin-turbo 11,000rpm engine has powered the 21C to various lap records while achieving stringent California emissions levels. Working as part of the Powertrain Controls team, but based in our HQ in Torrance – CA, we are seeking a Senior Powertrain Controls Engineer to support our test and development activities.
The Role
- Develop software functions for a range of controller functions, such as hybrid powertrain control, inverter controllers, diagnostics, power and network management, etc.
- Capture and analyze requirements. Maintain software version control.
- Plan and carry out test activities at various facilities, including engine dyno, chassis dyno, proving ground, racetrack and road. Support US and worldwide test and marketing events as necessary, including validation and mileage accumulation activities.
- Plan and execute tasks in accordance with the CZV Product Development Plan, meeting all gateways, from concept through to production.
- Support the build and commissioning of prototype and production vehicles, including diagnosis and rectification of issues.
- Debugging of vehicle and powertrain issues. Take ownership of issue resolution.
- Coordinate with other controls system suppliers and partners.
Basic Qualifications
- BSc in Automotive, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering
- 5+ years of experience on powertrain controls development of high-performance road-legal cars
- 5+ years experienced with function development using MATLAB/Simulink and embedded coder
- Deep knowledge in one or more areas of powertrain controls: BMS, EMS, TCU, INV, and VCU
- Knowledge of the fundaments of the internal combustion engines & hybrid electric vehicle operation
- Proficient with data acquisition tools such as Vector Canape as well as data analysis techniques
- Able to develop and integrate new functions from requirements
- Knowledge of vehicle network systems; CAN, LIN
- Sound understanding of functional safety concepts, ideally ISO26262
- Ability to debug powertrain hardware and software issues on vehicle
- Able to plan and track own development tasks and report progress.
- Experience with UDS protocols, End of Line testing and Flashing procedures
- Able to work autonomously and as part of a team. Can collaborate cross-functionally and with external partners
- Has a solution orientated approach and takes ownership of given responsibilities
Preferred Qualifications
- MSc or MEng in Automotive, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering
- 10+ years of experience on engine calibration of high-performance road-legal cars
- Advanced level or high-performance vehicle driver training
- Proficiency with C++
- Understanding of vehicle emissions and OBD regulations
Work Environment
- Office, workshop, test lab, engine/chassis dynamometer, in vehicle testing at proving ground / racetrack / on road. Climatic testing -10°C to +40°C. International travel ~20%.
- Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time
Pay Range
$122,400 - $168,300 USD
