Purpose

Czinger Vehicles is seeking a hands-on, detail-oriented Validation Workshop Manager to support the overall workshop operations of the Validation team and the activities related to test vehicles. This role involves managing and maintaining a safe, organized, and efficient workshop as well as managing a test technician team tasked with supporting a test vehicle fleet. The successful candidate will play a critical role in ensuring our validation workshop is efficient, well-supplied, and professional. They will oversee the successful preparation and operation of the test fleet to ensure our vehicles meet the highest standards of quality, safety, and performance.

The Role

The ideal candidate will be a strong and efficient leader and manage a team of Test Technicians and the operations of the Validation Workshop area. The candidate should have a strong background in automotive mechanics, with a passion for high-performance vehicles and a commitment to excellence, organization, and process management.  The ideal candidate has a mindset of continuous improvement and will be expected to implement process enhancements for vehicle repairs, maintenance, and testing activities. The Validation Workshop Manager collaborates closely with the Validation and Engineering teams and is expected to occasionally travel for test and marketing events.

Vehicle Validation Technician Management

  • Manage a team of Validation technicians and provide positive training, mentorship, and overall leadership for the team.
  • Handle administrative duties of the technician team including timesheets, expense reports, purchase requests, and performance reviews.
  • Maintain technician work schedules, task lists, priorities, and work-items to support business needs in a fast-paced environment, responding efficiently to changes
  • Build the technical skills and professional development of the technician team through proper training and work standards development to enable efficient support the various technical teams.
  • Support Validation engineering requests with technician work efforts around data acquisition from test vehicles, measurement, test setup, and test support.
  • Ensure technicians are using proper safety equipment, PPE, and following safe working rules inside and outside of the workshop.
  • Oversee the recording and input of all vehicle-related findings from the technician team before, during, and after any vehicle maintenance, repairs, or issue resolution.
  • Manage technicians’ input and recording of engineering related test data, issues, and test findings/results during and after test events.

Vehicle Validation Workshop Management

  • Budget and get approval for needed workshop supplies, equipment, consumables, tools, and engineering measurement supplies to support Validation and Engineering needs.
  • Maintain a safe, organized, tidy, and efficient working environment and work rules for the technician team.
  • Forecast the needs for the team to avoid parts, supplies, and equipment shortages and support test vehicle uptime and test readiness
  • Keep an accurate inventory management system regarding test parts, spare parts, consumables, testing equipment, and other company and department assets.
  • Manage the test vehicle and support vehicle fleet and closely track and record vehicle condition, mileage, repairs, maintenance, drivers’ logs, and related records.
  • Ensure vehicles and equipment are safely transported and maintained.
  • Responsible for all technician activities comply with relevant industry standards, regulations, and company policies.
  • Collaborate with Engineering and Management teams to understand vehicle and test needs and requirements and anticipate and plan work schedules accordingly.

Documentation & Issue Tracking

  • Maintain accurate records of all modifications, repairs, and maintenance performed on vehicles.
  • Work with the wider Validation team to develop a robust process for tracking test vehicle and asset mileages, usage history, and detail part status.
  • Support with troubleshooting and diagnosing issues arising during vehicle repairs and test events.
  • Ensure technicians are raising and tracking issues via JIRA - Engineering Issues Management System.
  • Support root-cause and issue investigations in the field and workshop and dispatch technician support when necessary.

Test Vehicle and Asset Management

  • Maintain timely and accurate logs regarding test vehicle and asset mileages, repairs/maintenance, parts, history, and users.
  • Ensure proper test and validation support equipment needs are identified and planned in accordance with company budget and planning guidelines.
  • Support technicians in assembly, rework, and modification of test and marketing vehicles in collaboration with engineering and production teams.
  • Follow test requirements for setup, measurement, and preparation of test vehicles and test equipment in collaboration with engineering and validation teams.
  • Install and verify vehicle data acquisition systems.
  • Perform pre- and post-event inspections, maintenance, and repairs.
  • Support to prepare trucks, trailers, and vehicles for deployment to test and marketing events.
  • Use continuous improvement methodology and mindset to improve vehicle repairs and maintenance and workshop procedures.

Basic Qualifications

  • Ability to manage a team of test technicians and lead by positive example.
  • Organization, continuous improvement, and efficiency mindset.
  • Extensive knowledge of high-performance hybrid cars or motor racing cars.
  • Can plan and execute vehicle repairs and reworks on complex vehicle systems.
  • Ability to debug hardware and software issues on vehicles.
  • Methodical, detailed, and systematic.
  • Able to work autonomously and as part of a team. Can collaborate cross-functionally with external partners.
  • Hands-on and proactive approach to problem solving.
  • Has a solution orientated approach and takes ownership of given responsibilities.
  • Proficiency with JIRA or similar issue tracking systems.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with vehicle data logging systems and basic programming or scripting.
  • Class B or higher driver’s license and trailer towing certification.
  • Can define and set up data acquisition equipment.

Compensation

At Czinger, our pay range is based on the level of the job. For this role, we will consider candidates at levels M06 Manager as evaluated through our interview process.

  • Manager / M06: $128,610 - $176,850
