Windows/UNIX Systems Administrator - Must be willing to travel

Transform technology into opportunity as a Systems Administrator Advisor with D2 Consulting. In this role, you’ll help support enterprise IT systems that directly contribute to critical government missions. As a Systems Administrator supporting an Intelligence customer in Springfield, VA, you’ll play a meaningful role in ensuring today is safe and tomorrow is smarter.


What You’ll Do

As a Systems Administrator, you’ll work closely with both onsite and remote users to support production systems and provide Tier 2/3 technical expertise. Your day-to-day responsibilities will include:

  • Administering desktop and server systems across local and wide area networks

  • Supporting account monitoring, system security, OS installation, and general system management

  • Troubleshooting and resolving Tier 2 and Tier 3 technical issues

  • Providing day-to-day operations support, monitoring, and problem resolution for IT infrastructure

  • Installing and maintaining operating systems and application software

  • Diagnosing and resolving hardware/software issues across systems and networks

  • Performing system upgrades, patches, and software installations for Windows and Unix environments

  • Supporting linked databases, ensuring security, integrity, and disaster recovery readiness

  • Conducting routine and emergency maintenance of data center equipment

  • Coordinating preventive maintenance windows with impacted customers

  • Assisting with backup and recovery planning and testing

  • Ensuring systems meet STIG security compliance, using tools such as Retina and HBSS

  • Maintaining operational documentation and standard operating procedures (SOPs)

  • Verifying system availability using enterprise monitoring tools


What You’ll Need to Succeed

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree with 5+ years of relevant experience (or equivalent combination of education/experience)

  • Active TS/SCI clearance and ability to obtain a CI Polygraph

  • Experience using trouble ticket and tracking systems (e.g., Service+)

  • Ability to provide after-hours on-call support as needed

  • Strong ability to prioritize and perform under pressure

  • Willingness to earn CompTIA Security+ (or DoD 8570 Level II equivalent) and a Windows certification within 90 days of hire

  • Ability to deploy for up to 6 months if mission requires

  • Valid U.S. passport

  • Working knowledge of Windows and UNIX administration, hardware, storage, and networking


Travel & Physical Requirements

  • Travel expectation: 30–75% within the Washington Metropolitan area, with occasional CONUS/OCONUS travel

  • Ability to lift/move up to 50 lbs and perform occasional physical activity such as standing, climbing, kneeling, or crouching


Nice to Have

  • Experience supporting imagery intelligence (IMINT) environments

  • Scripting experience across Windows, Linux, and Solaris platforms

  • Familiarity with customer production systems and workflows

  • Experience with tools such as ArcGIS, Socet GXP, or similar analytical platforms

  • Knowledge in technologies such as Windows Server, Red Hat, Solaris, Sybase, Informix, SQL, and imagery production chains

  • Compensation is unique to each candidate and relative to the skills and experience they bring to the position. The salary range for this position is typically $125-135k. This does not guarantee a specific salary as compensation is based upon multiple factors such as education, experience, certifications, and other requirements, and may fall outside of the above-stated range.
