Job Summary

We are looking for a finance executive who can operate at the intersection of rigorous financial management and sophisticated investor engagement, and who is ready to assume overall CFO responsibilities as the company grows. The Deputy CFO will serve as a strategic partner to the CFO, owning core financial operations while leading the company’s investor relations function and serving as a key voice to the capital markets.

In this role, you will be helping shape how investors, analysts, and the broader market understand Deep Fission’s story. This role sits at the center of finance, strategy, and communications, with real influence over how the company presents itself as it grows into its public-company identity.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Investor Relations
    • Lead the development and execution of Deep Fission’s investor relations strategy, including quarterly earnings communications, investor presentations, and ongoing shareholder engagement
    • Serve as a primary point of contact for institutional investors, analysts, and financial media, building relationships and ensuring consistent, accurate messaging about the company’s financial position and strategic direction
    • Prepare and deliver earnings call materials, investor day presentations, press releases, and other external-facing financial communications in coordination with legal, communications, and the executive team
    • Monitor analyst coverage, investor sentiment, and peer company communications to inform messaging and ensure Deep Fission is well-positioned in the capital markets
    • Partner with legal counsel to ensure all investor communications comply with SEC disclosure requirements and Regulation FD
  • Financial Operations & Reporting
    • Partner with the CFO to manage all financial operations including budgeting, forecasting, cash management, and financial reporting
    • Oversee the preparation of board materials, investor reporting packages, and fundraising or secondary offering documentation
    • Ensure the accuracy, timeliness, and GAAP compliance of all financial statements and SEC filings, including 10-K, 10-Q, and 8-K submissions
    • Build and maintain detailed financial models to support business planning, scenario analysis, and capital allocation decisions
    • Manage relationships with external auditors, legal counsel, banking partners, and key financial vendors
    • Work closely with the COO to align financial planning cycles with operational roadmaps, ensuring near-term cash management and longer-term capital allocation decisions reflect actual operational timelines and constraints
    • Partner with the COO to develop and maintain operational financial frameworks, including unit economics, capacity planning models, and cost-per-output metrics that connect financial performance to operational execution
  • Financial Infrastructure & Leadership
    • Drive the continued implementation and optimization of financial systems, controls, and processes as Deep Fission scales
    • Support compliance with government contracting, grant reporting, and regulatory financial requirements as applicable
    • Develop and mentor the finance team, building organizational depth and bench strength over time
    • Be prepared to step into and assume overall CFO responsibilities, serving as acting CFO in the absence of the CFO and representing the finance function with investors, partners, and the board

Required Skills & Experience:

  • MBA (or equivalent) and CPA strongly preferred
  • 8 to 12 years of progressive finance experience, including at least 3 years in a senior finance leadership role (Deputy CFO, VP Finance, Controller, CFO, or equivalent)
  • Demonstrated experience in investor relations at a public company, including direct involvement in earnings communications, analyst relationships, and SEC compliance
  • Comfortable in a start up environment with change
  • Deep understanding of US GAAP, financial reporting, and internal controls in a public company environment
  • Proven ability to build financial infrastructure from the ground up or during periods of rapid growth and change
  • Strong financial modeling, FP&A, and executive-level reporting capabilities
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills — you are as comfortable presenting to a room of institutional investors as you are reviewing a reconciliation
  • High integrity and an ownership mentality, with demonstrated ability to lead through ambiguity in fast-moving, pre-commercial environments where resourcefulness matters as much as expertise

Desired Skills & Experience:

  • Experience in venture-backed, high-growth, or regulated industry environments such as nuclear, energy, aerospace, defense, or biotech
  • Prior experience supporting a company through its first one to two years of life as a public company, including the transition from private reporting standards
  • Familiarity with capital markets dynamics relevant to deep tech or energy infrastructure companies
  • Experience working cross-functionally with legal, government relations, and communications teams on disclosure and external affairs matters

Our Commitment:

Deep Fission is an equal opportunity employer committed to building a diverse and inclusive workplace. We welcome applicants from all backgrounds who share our passion for advancing clean nuclear energy and creating a sustainable future. We do not discriminate on the basis of race, color, creed, religion, ancestry, age, sex, marital status, national origin, disability, veteran status, or any other characteristic protected by applicable law.

As a government contractor subject to the Vietnam Era Veterans Readjustment Assistance Act (VEVRAA), we request this information in order to measure the effectiveness of the outreach and positive recruitment efforts we undertake pursuant to VEVRAA. Classification of protected categories is as follows:

A "disabled veteran" is one of the following: a veteran of the U.S. military, ground, naval or air service who is entitled to compensation (or who but for the receipt of military retired pay would be entitled to compensation) under laws administered by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs; or a person who was discharged or released from active duty because of a service-connected disability.

Expires 04/30/2026

Why are you being asked to complete this form?

We are a federal contractor or subcontractor. The law requires us to provide equal employment opportunity to qualified people with disabilities. We have a goal of having at least 7% of our workers as people with disabilities. The law says we must measure our progress towards this goal. To do this, we must ask applicants and employees if they have a disability or have ever had one. People can become disabled, so we need to ask this question at least every five years.

Completing this form is voluntary, and we hope that you will choose to do so. Your answer is confidential. No one who makes hiring decisions will see it. Your decision to complete the form and your answer will not harm you in any way. If you want to learn more about the law or this form, visit the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP) website at www.dol.gov/ofccp.
