Mountain View, California, US

Snapshot

Are you an experienced Analytics Engineer looking for your next role?

Join us in shaping the future of AI research. In this role you will use data to help Google DeepMind focus on the right projects.

About Us

Google DeepMind: Artificial Intelligence could be one of humanity’s most useful inventions. At Google DeepMind, we’re working together to advance the state of the art in artificial intelligence. We use our technologies for widespread public benefit and scientific discovery, and collaborate with others on critical challenges, ensuring safety and ethics are the highest priority.

Core Analytics Team: The Core Analytics Team (CAT) are a full stack data science team that organise, model, and deploy data to guide Google DeepMind strategy & decisions. To do this we blend our technical skillset with rich stakeholder relationships.

The Role

We are looking for an experienced analytics engineer to build the data foundations, define key metrics and make recommendations to guide strategic decisions and influence the trajectory of AI research at Google DeepMind.

Some recent projects we’ve worked on:

  • Data Driven Investment Strategy: We built a model to estimate the time researchers were spending on each project based on the number of projects worked on and project role. We presented these insights to leaders of a large department to help them understand the investments they’d made in each research area. This allowed them to assess if the department was investing in the right areas.
  • Impact Measurement Strategy: Built an impact measurement strategy in partnership with a cross functional team. Defined a publication impact metric based on citation metadata. Built a pipeline to calculate this metric by ingesting public data on published papers and identifying ones published by Google DeepMind employees.
  • Enabled Unified Data Flow: Designed and implemented a new, scalable data pipeline to bridge the gap between two merged upstream tools. Collaborated with stakeholders to ensure the most effective solution was built.
  • Data Access Controls: Developed new technical methods to restrict sensitive data within dashboards while allowing users to view data relevant to them.
  • Inspire feature development: Working with partner teams to adjust their roadmap to ensure key data is collected to enhance downstream analytics.

What we can offer you:

  • Help Steer AI development: You will have the opportunity to contribute to the development of AI by providing recommendations to leaders of AI research teams.
  • Unparalleled Breadth of Analytics Experience: Unlike typical roles, you'll gain exposure to all facets of analytics, including data modeling, pipeline development, and presenting to senior stakeholders; equipping you with a diverse skill set crucial for career advancement.
  • Be Part of a Great Team: You will be part of a strong and motivated team, who work closely together, with high technical standards, developing interesting and useful approaches to solve complex problems.

About you

We're looking for an experienced analytics engineer with at least 4 years experience working in a data role (e.g. Analytics Engineer, Data Engineer, Data Scientist or Product Data Analyst) who can translate complex business challenges into impactful data-driven solutions

Essential Skills:

  • Advanced Data Modelling in SQL: Experience designing, building, and optimizing data models in SQL. You understand the tradeoffs between different data structures and levels of data normalisation. You are an advanced SQL user who is confident in solving data problems that require multiple transformation steps.
  • Communication: We deliver results by partnering closely with peers and stakeholders so we are looking for someone who is excited about working effectively with peers in different roles. Including:
    • Communicating with technical audiences (e.g. software engineers), non technical audiences (e.g. project managers) and senior leaders.
    • Explaining technical concepts to non technical audiences.
    • Translating stakeholder data needs into technical requirements.
  • Agency: We are looking for self starters who will proactively build relationships, drive projects and solve problems.

Useful Skills

  • Building Data Pipelines: Experience building pipelines to ingest and process data (e.g. using DBT), using software engineering best practice including change control.
  • Python: Experience using Python and the Python Data Stack (e.g. Pandas, Scikit-learn, NumPy, Jupyter).
  • Project Management: Good project management skills, including communicating timelines, expectations and progress, are essential.

If you don’t think you embody all of the above criteria, please still seriously consider applying! This role (and therefore the requirements) is broad, and we’d be excited to discuss how you see yourself contributing across it.

Classification of protected categories is as follows:

OMB Control Number 1250-0005
Expires 04/30/2026

Why are you being asked to complete this form?

We are a federal contractor or subcontractor. The law requires us to provide equal employment opportunity to qualified people with disabilities. We have a goal of having at least 7% of our workers as people with disabilities. The law says we must measure our progress towards this goal. To do this, we must ask applicants and employees if they have a disability or have ever had one. People can become disabled, so we need to ask this question at least every five years.

Completing this form is voluntary, and we hope that you will choose to do so. Your answer is confidential. No one who makes hiring decisions will see it. Your decision to complete the form and your answer will not harm you in any way. If you want to learn more about the law or this form, visit the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP) website at www.dol.gov/ofccp.
