Protein Chemistry and Biosensing Research Assistant

Summary
We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Research Assistant with a hybrid background in protein chemistry, materials, and engineering, with capabilities in coding and software development. This role supports both laboratory research and computational efforts, contributing to experimental workflows, assay execution, and development of tools for data analysis and automation.
Responsibilities
- Assist in the preparation, execution, and documentation of protein chemistry experiments and biochemical assays.
- Perform routine lab techniques such as protein purification, sample preparation, and assay setup.
- Maintain laboratory equipment, reagents, and inventory.
- Accurately record experimental data and contribute to reports and documentation.
- Follow all safety protocols and standard operating procedures.
- Maintain scripts, codes, and lightweight software tools for data analysis and workflow automation.
- Support integration and organization of experimental data.
- Assist with embedded or hardware-related development tasks using C, Python, and/or Atmel Studio.
- Troubleshoot software, data, or instrumentation-related issues.
- Work with interdisciplinary teams including scientists and engineers.
- Contribute to improving experimental and data workflows.
- Participate in team meetings and communicate results effectively.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Biochemistry (or related field) with software development, protein chemistry, materials, and assay development experience.
- Hands-on experience with protein chemistry techniques and biochemical assays (academic or industry).
- Basic proficiency in at least one programming language (e.g., Python, C/C++, or R).
- Some hands-on experience with Atmel Studio or similar embedded development environments.
- Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Familiarity with data analysis tools or scientific computing libraries is preferred.
- Experience with laboratory data systems or instrumentation is preferred.
- Exposure to embedded systems or hardware-software integration is preferred.
- Understanding of protein structure and function is preferred.
- Attention to detail and strong documentation practices.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
- Adaptability in a multidisciplinary environment.
- Strong communication skills.
Salary range: $36,000 – $48,000 per year, based on experience and qualifications.
