As a Senior Backend Engineer at Degreed, you’ll play a pivotal role in transforming and modernizing the core of our platform. This is an opportunity to not only write code but to help craft the foundational architecture that powers a global company, enabling product teams to deliver cutting-edge solutions.

You will work closely with a talented team of engineers and cross-functional collaborators to design and implement scalable services that drive customer engagement and business growth. Key Skills

  • C# Proficiency: Advanced expertise in developing robust, scalable backend services and APIs using C#. (8+ years of experience required)

  • Collaboration and Problem-Solving: Proven ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams, analyzing and resolving complex technical challenges while aligning solutions with business goals.

  • Modular System Design: Skilled in creating modular components to enhance maintainability, scalability, and system flexibility.

  • Library Development: Expertise in developing reusable libraries to standardize functionality and improve development efficiency.

  • Logging and Monitoring: Strong experience in implementing logging, monitoring, and alerting systems (e.g., ELK stack, Datadog) to ensure reliability and visibility.

  • Event-Driven Architecture: Hands-on experience with event-driven patterns (e.g., Azure Service Bus, Azure Event Grid, Kafka) for building scalable backend systems.

  • Authentication and Authorization: Deep knowledge of RBAC (Role-Based Access Control) and enhancing secure, efficient access management.

  • Agile Methodologies: Experience working in agile environments, with a demonstrated ability to adapt to changing requirements and sprint cycles.

  • Cloud Expertise: Practical experience deploying and managing services in cloud environments such as Google Cloud or Azure.

Key Responsibilities

  • Full Software Development Lifecycle: Participate in all stages of software development, from concept to deployment, ensuring high-quality deliverables.

  • Research and Design: Conduct research, build proof-of-concepts, and actively contribute to architecture and design discussions.

  • Technical Communication: Clearly articulate complex features and systems to stakeholders and team members.

  • Sprint Planning: Collaborate with Product Managers to plan and elaborate on technical stories for sprint releases.

  • Production Troubleshooting: Assist in diagnosing and resolving production issues while driving improvements in system reliability and scalability.

  • Data-Driven Decisions: Collaborate with teammates to make informed technology recommendations based on data.

  • Technology Leadership: Contribute to team commitments on design, architecture, and project estimation.
