Degreed is hiring a Director of Engineering to lead our Data Engineering and Reporting functions. This role will unify two critical teams under one leader — accelerating the delivery of client-facing analytics, strengthening our data foundation, and driving cost efficiency at scale.

You’ll play a key role in enabling trustworthy, transparent, and high-impact reporting that directly influences customer retention, renewals, and expansion. You’ll also help lay the groundwork for AI-powered analytics and deeper client insights, shaping the future of how Degreed delivers data to both internal and external users.

This is a highly cross-functional role, requiring close collaboration with Product, Engineering, Customer Success, and Security teams. You’ll report on impact, own service reliability, and foster a strong culture of technical excellence, scalability, and accountability.

Key Skills

• Minimum Experience: 15 years in data engineering, analytics, or enterprise-scale reporting, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership role.
• Deep expertise in Data Engineering, Analytics, and Enterprise Reporting.
• Strong experience with modern data platforms, including Snowflake, ELT, and Data Warehousing.
• Proven track record of leading high-performing engineering teams and building scalable data infrastructure.
• Experience delivering BI and analytics solutions with a focus on client value and transparency.
• Familiarity with AI/ML-driven use cases and enabling insights at scale.
• Strong understanding of data governance, privacy, compliance, and security best practices.
• Executive-level communication and the ability to influence cross-functional stakeholders.
• Skilled in driving operational efficiency, managing technical debt, and measuring business impact.
• A systems thinker who breaks down silos and connects data efforts to business outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the Data Engineering and Reporting teams, ensuring alignment and accountability across both areas.
• Drive the reporting and analytics roadmap, with a focus on accuracy, transparency, and business impact.
• Build and optimize data pipelines and infrastructure to support enterprise reporting and AI-driven analytics.
• Partner with Product, Engineering, and Customer teams to deliver reporting features that drive retention and upsell.
• Ensure strong governance, compliance, and security across all data flows and reporting systems.
• Own the reliability and performance of reporting services, including uptime and customer SLAs.
• Enable advanced analytics and insights that differentiate Degreed in the market.
• Foster a culture of collaboration and shared ownership, breaking down silos between data teams.
• Track and report on the business impact of reporting improvements — including adoption, renewals, and NPS.
