Social Media Manager

Democracy Forward is seeking an experienced Social Media Manager to tell the story of our work across social platforms, grow our base of supporters, and further our fight for democracy. Reporting to the Digital Strategy Director, the person in this role will be responsible for the day-to-day management of social media content and advise on best practices across platforms. 

Responsibilities

  • Drive the development of social media content and community management across our social media channels to better connect with opinion leaders, supporters, and donors
  • Translate the complexities of our organization’s work into an engaging narrative that invites supporters on the journey with us
  • Know our audiences and how to engage them on social platforms better than anyone, designing engagement programs with the messages and tactics that build relationships for the long-term
  • Maintain a deep knowledge of, and curiosity about, the work we do, spotting opportunities for engagement and collaborating with our experts to communicate their work across platforms
  • Manage the day-to-day operations of all our social media platforms, including Instagram, TikTok, X/Twitter, Threads, Facebook, and LinkedIn, while advising on best practices and platforms to consider
  • Grow our emerging video-first platforms, and establish processes to consistently produce and deploy video content across platforms
  • Brainstorm, create, and deploy rapid response content alongside other members of the Public Affairs team
  • Learn from the campaigns you run and innovate on your approach, sharing performance metrics and lessons with the entire team

What we’re looking for

We want to hear from you if you believe your strengths and passion for building digital programs would help you succeed in this role, even if your past experience or skills don’t match this description perfectly.

  • 2-3 years experience working on social media programs (ideally for a non-profit, advocacy organization, or campaign)
  • Experience developing messaging and communications strategy that engages, persuades, and mobilizes supporters on behalf of a cause
  • A desire to lead, build, and improve on the programs and platforms that exist, communicating to leadership what’s needed and where you want to grow
  • Understanding of best practices for multiple social media channels (including Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, and/or TikTok)
  • Familiarity with social media management tools like Later and Sprout Social
  • Experience sharing and analyzing metrics across social media platforms
  • Familiarity with work management tools and systems, like Airtable, Asana, Google Workspace/Drive
  • Experience or interest in front of and behind the camera to create video-first content (including speaking direct to camera, scripting and producing, and/or editing) strongly preferred 
  • Graphic design experience a plus, but not required
  • Located in the DC Metro area strongly preferred 
  • A shared passion for creating change, advocating for democratic norms, and holding leaders accountable for good government

The salary range for this position is $70,000 - $80,000 commensurate with experience plus excellent benefits.
