
Senior Data Scientist

Job Summary: The Denver Broncos Football Technology and Research Department is looking for a hard-working and talented Senior Data Scientist to join our analytics team. The Senior Data Scientist will be responsible for developing, delivering, and maintaining data science projects that support football operations. You will work closely with other data scientists, analysts, and software engineers to support new and existing internal applications.
Key Responsibilities
· Develop, deliver, and maintain data science projects (machine learning/statistical models, data pipelines, simulations, APIs, web applications, reports, and databases) that inform strategy and decision making across football operations (primarily player personnel/scouting, and coaching).
· Research and prescribe statistical methods that can be applied to answer new questions and improve existing solutions.
· Communicate findings clearly and effectively to football operations staff through reports, dashboards, and presentations.
· Mentor junior data scientists and contribute to the development of best practices within the data science team.
· Maintain an understanding of the current AI landscape (Gen AI, RAG, LLMs, etc.) to inform department vision and strategy
· Support data and video cutup requests from football operations staff.
Minimum Requirements
· Bachelor’s degree in data science, computer science, engineering, statistics, applied mathematics, or related field
Preferred Skills and Ability
· 5+ years of relevant work or graduate school experience
· PhD or MS degree in statistics/data science
· Fluency in R or Python
· Ability to develop and validate supervised machine learning models
· Ability to derive valuable insights from player-tracking data such as NFL Next Gen Stats
· Applied experience in at least one of the following areas:
- Deep learning
- State space models
- Bayesian inference/probabilistic programming (Stan, PyMC, or Pyro)
· Familiarity with:
- Mixed-effects models
- SQL and database management
- Git for version control
- DevOps and CI/CD for data/ML pipelines
- Containerization (Docker)
· Ability to identify football research projects that maximize department utility
· NFL/Football knowledge
· Motivated to adhere to software engineering principles (DRY, modularity, etc.) and develop collaboratively
· Experience with workflow automation tools and cloud platforms is a plus

In accordance with the Colorado Equal Pay for Equal Work Act, the salary for this role is $132,800 - $148,100. This position may require you to work flexible hours including weekends, evenings and holidays outside of a normal working hour as needed.
