As our commerce portfolio expands, we’re looking for a Pre-Sales Commerce Consultant to help craft and sell high-performing digital commerce solutions—anchored in Shopify Plus but with a broader grasp of modern commerce.
The Role
This role sits at the intersection of pre-sales, strategy, and solution architecture. You’ll support new business opportunities and strategic accounts by shaping commerce solutions that are technically sound, commercially compelling, and scalable. Your sweet spot will be Shopify Plus and its ecosystem, but you’ll also bring an awareness of headless, composable, and MACH-aligned approaches. You’ll own the commerce architecture for pitches and early-stage projects and work with delivery teams to ensure a smooth handover and strong foundation for success.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead commerce architecture in pre-sales efforts, collaborating with sales, product strategists, and technical leads to shape winning responses for Shopify Plus and broader commerce opportunities.
- Understand client needs and design fit-for-purpose commerce solutions, balancing off-the-shelf features, custom development, and third-party integrations.
- Develop technical vision documents, high-level solution architectures, estimates, and delivery strategies that align with business requirements and platform capabilities.
- Take part in discovery phases, shaping platform decisions and leading technical and functional scoping workshops.
- Act as the commerce thought leader in client conversations, helping non-technical stakeholders understand trade-offs and solution rationale.
- Stay connected post-sale to transition smoothly into delivery, supporting estimation, planning, and architectural setup.
- Maintain strong awareness of the Shopify roadmap and ecosystem (apps, payments, POS, B2B features, Hydrogen/Storefront API, etc.).
- Represent DEPT® in industry discussions around composable commerce, headless, Shopify vs alternatives, omnichannel, and more.
What We’re Looking For
- 5+ years in digital commerce consulting or architecture, with deep hands-on experience in Shopify Plus.
- Proven track record in shaping and winning ecommerce projects—ideally in an agency or consultancy environment.
- Strong grasp of the modern commerce landscape, including headless, composable stacks, API-first design, and MACH principles.
- Able to translate business goals into technical solutions and communicate that vision clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Confident working across discovery, estimation, and early-stage solutioning before delivery teams are fully mobilised.
- Comfortable leading workshops, writing proposal content, and owning the technical story in pitches and RFPs.
- Good understanding of the broader commerce tech stack: integrations with PIM, ERP, OMS, CRM, and CDP platforms.
- Familiarity with modern frontend frameworks (React, Hydrogen, Next.js) and CMS platforms (e.g. Contentful, Sanity) is a bonus.
Nice to Have
- Shopify certifications or formal experience as part of the Shopify Partner ecosystem.
- Awareness of internationalisation, B2B, and omnichannel challenges in commerce architecture.
- Experience contributing to or designing composable solutions in a MACH environment.
