Associate, SEO Strategy

US Remote

WHY DEPT®?

We are a Growth Invention company built to help the world’s most ambitious brands grow faster. Operating at the intersection of technology and marketing, we create what is next by pioneering ideas, acting fast, and moving further because standing still just is not in our DNA.

We are drawn to people who stay curious, move with intent, and never stop inventing. Our culture runs on three values: better together, relentlessly curious, and get sh*t done. It is how we work, how we grow, and how we make things that matter.

At DEPT®, you will find the freedom to explore, the space to collaborate, and the trust to make a real impact for our clients, for each other, and for the world we are helping to build.

THE ROLE:

The Associate, SEO & ASO Strategy is a growth-oriented professional dedicated to driving organic performance across the entire digital discovery funnel—from search engine results pages to the app stores. With 1+ years of experience, you aren't just executing tasks; you are building a foundational mastery of how brands win in a multi-platform world.

This role is designed for a perpetual learner. You will bridge the gap between traditional SEO, AI-driven search (AIO / GEO), and App Store Optimization (ASO). We don’t expect you to know everything on day one, but we do expect the intellectual curiosity to dive deep into new algorithms and the drive to "future-proof" our clients' visibility.

While DEPT® is a remote-first company, this role requires candidates to be located in the Pacific time zone due to client restrictions.

Core Responsibilities:

Execution & Delivery:

  • Support foundational initiatives including technical audits, keyword mapping, schema implementation, and website migrations.
  • Execute App Store and Google Play Store optimizations, including keyword research for app metadata, creative asset coordination, and conversion rate testing.
  • Assist in optimizing for generative search environments (AIO/GEO) through semantic analysis and synthetic query testing.
  • Own the lifecycle of deliverables, ensuring timelines are met with precision and proactive communication.
  • Manage deliverables from inception to completion, maintaining project plans and timelines with precision.
  • Define upfront client SEO requirements and site changes to increase quality traffic, maximize site performance, and drive client value.
  • Manage the development of deliverables and coordinate directly with internal teams.

Learning & Development:

  • Actively participate in internal training sessions covering advanced ASO, technical SEO, and emerging AI tools.
  • Stay ahead of the curve on Apple/Google algorithm updates and share actionable "flash reports" with the broader team.
  • Assist in running "alpha/beta" tests for new strategies—whether it's a new schema type or an ASO creative experiment.

Client Management:

  • Serve a key supporting role in client relationships, participating in client calls and assisting with consistent communication and follow-up.
  • Provide consistent and well-structured follow-up on the status of SEO recommendations for clients.
  • Assist in preparing materials for weekly meetings, performance reviews, and quarterly business reviews.

Performance & Reporting:

  • Help build and interpret dashboards (GA4, GSC, App Store Connect, Looker Studio) that connect web and app performance to bottom-line business results.
  • Perform ongoing/monthly analysis and reporting to identify further optimization opportunities for each client.
  • Help connect SEO/GEO/ASO KPIs to business results, ensuring all reporting includes actionable insights and trend analysis.
  • Go beyond the "what" to explain the "why," identifying trends that inform proactive strategy shifts.
  • Monitor algorithm updates, industry news, and competitor activity to inform the team's proactive strategies.

Quality & Innovation:

  • Uphold high standards of quality, accuracy, and detail across every deliverable.
  • Conduct thorough QA on personal work, ensuring readiness for internal and external delivery.
  • Support strategic efforts through data gathering and analysis for AI-driven projects, such as AIO / GEO audits, semantic similarity analyses, and synthetic query testing.
  • Contribute to internal SEO thought leadership by sharing new tools and trends.

Required Skills & Experience:

  • 1+ year of professional SEO experience (agency preferred).
  • Proven prior work experience presenting findings and making recommendations for account optimizations to internal or external clients is a must.
  • Familiarity with App Store Optimization (ASO) principles or a demonstrable passion to master mobile growth.
  • Foundational understanding of technical SEO, content strategy, and analytics.
  • The ability to audit client sites, identify common issues/errors, and support resolution.
  • Knowledge of tools such as Google Search Console, GA4, Screaming Frog, and Semrush/Ahrefs. Familiarity with ASO tools (AppTweak, Sensor Tower) is a major plus.
  • Analytical and reporting skills, and proficiency in the Microsoft/Google suite (Excel/Sheets, PowerPoint/Slides).
  • Exceptional organization, writing, verbal communication, organization, and project management skills.
  • Eagerness to roll up your sleeves, be hands-on, and grow quickly in the search marketing space.
  • While DEPT® is a remote-first company, this role requires candidates to be located in the Pacific time zone due to client restrictions.

Additional things that will impress us:

  • Prior experience with Apple Search Ads (ASA) or App Store Connect.
  • A portfolio of "learning projects" (e.g., a personal blog, a side-hustle app, or AI automation experiments).
  • Certification in Google Analytics or specialized ASO courses.
  • Intermediate knowledge of JavaScript and how it impacts search crawlers.

WHAT DO WE OFFER?

  • Healthcare, Dental, and Vision coverage
  • 401K plan, plus matching
  • PTO
  • Paid Company Holidays
  • Parental Leave

Classification of protected categories is as follows:

A "disabled veteran" is one of the following: a veteran of the U.S. military, ground, naval or air service who is entitled to compensation (or who but for the receipt of military retired pay would be entitled to compensation) under laws administered by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs; or a person who was discharged or released from active duty because of a service-connected disability.

Voluntary Self-Identification of Disability

Form CC-305
OMB Control Number 1250-0005
Expires 04/30/2026

Why are you being asked to complete this form?

We are a federal contractor or subcontractor. The law requires us to provide equal employment opportunity to qualified people with disabilities. We have a goal of having at least 7% of our workers as people with disabilities. The law says we must measure our progress towards this goal. To do this, we must ask applicants and employees if they have a disability or have ever had one. People can become disabled, so we need to ask this question at least every five years.

Completing this form is voluntary, and we hope that you will choose to do so. Your answer is confidential. No one who makes hiring decisions will see it. Your decision to complete the form and your answer will not harm you in any way. If you want to learn more about the law or this form, visit the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP) website at www.dol.gov/ofccp.
