Director, Creative (Copy/Art)

NY, US, MA, US, IL, US, GA, US - Remote

WHY DEPT®?

We are a Growth Invention company built to help the world’s most ambitious brands grow faster. Operating at the intersection of technology and marketing, we create what is next by pioneering ideas, acting fast, and moving further because standing still just is not in our DNA.

We are drawn to people who stay curious, move with intent, and never stop inventing. Our culture runs on three values: better together, relentlessly curious, and get sh*t done. It is how we work, how we grow, and how we make things that matter.

At DEPT®, you will find the freedom to explore, the space to collaborate, and the trust to make a real impact for our clients, for each other, and for the world we are helping to build.

THE ROLE:

As a Director, Creative, you own the verbal and visual direction for one of our largest global accounts. The role sits at the intersection of brand storytelling and performance marketing, and it asks for a leader who can hold one voice and one standard of art direction across every workstream while the work ships at volume, in multiple markets, on a constant cycle.

You come from copy. You build the brand voice systems, messaging architectures, and editorial standards the account writes from, then partner with Art Direction so the verbal and visual stay in step from concept through final delivery. You run several workstreams at once: brand campaigns, always-on social, product launches, and the lifecycle work underneath them. You are the final creative authority on what goes out the door.

WHAT YOU’LL DO:

  • Establish the vision for multidisciplinary teams (Copy, Art, Content, Design) and ensure a cohesive, high-bar output across every workstream on the account.
  • Own the brand voice system: messaging architecture, editorial standards, and the writing guidelines that keep output consistent across teams, markets, and AI-assisted workflows.
  • Lead the strategy and execution of performance-driven campaigns, using data-backed insights to inform bold, creative risks that drive ROI.
  • Run concurrent workstreams across brand, always-on, product launch, and lifecycle, holding one strategic through-line and one art direction standard across all of them.
  • Partner with Strategy, Media, and Analytics to connect creative decisions to performance, and bring results back into the next round of work.
  • Build and implement scalable creative systems and workflows that allow the team to move faster and smarter without sacrificing quality.
  • Establish frameworks for creative review, copy QA, and cross-functional handoff that hold quality steady as volume increases.
  • Lead high-value pitches and flagship brand work, acting as the primary creative consultant for C-suite clients.
  • Manage a team of writers and art directors directly, coaching their craft, strategic thinking, and career growth.
  • Take ownership of end-to-end creative quality and execution, stepping into a hands-on capacity as required by the project scale and complexity, and acting as the final creative authority on key deliverables.
  • Identify emerging trends, technologies, and skill gaps to keep the creative team future-ready.

WHAT YOU BRING:

  • 8+ years of experience in copywriting, brand storytelling, or integrated campaign development, including leadership experience in multidisciplinary teams.
  • 2+ years of experience managing, mentoring, and building copy and creative teams.
  • Experience leading a global account, with the operating habits that come with multiple markets, regional stakeholders, and simultaneous workstreams.
  • A body of work showcasing conceptual range and writing craft on large-scale, multi-channel advertising campaigns.
  • Proven experience building brand voice systems, messaging architectures, and editorial standards from scratch.
  • Deep experience building performance, creative, and social media campaigns that successfully marry brand aesthetics with hard-hitting metrics.
  • A strong eye for art direction, typography, and layout; you can brief, critique, and sign off on visual work with the same authority you bring to copy.
  • A knack for building scalable solutions; the process you put in place still solves the problem after you hand it off.
  • Fluency with AI-assisted creative workflows and a clear point of view on where they belong in the process.
  • The ability to balance creative excellence with business performance, ensuring our work moves the needle for our clients’ bottom lines.
  • Exceptional communication and presentation skills, with the ability to present complex ideas professionally and effectively to all levels of stakeholders.
