Director of Safety and Quality

About the Role:    

 

The Director of Safety and Quality will oversee and manage the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of safety and quality programs across all material handling operations. This position requires a strategic thinker with a proven background in safety and quality management, preferably within the material handling, logistics, or industrial sectors. The Director will ensure compliance with industry regulations, drive best practices, and foster a culture of safety and quality excellence. They will work closely with cross-functional teams, including project management, site management, and operations, to ensure the delivery of projects in a safe, high-quality manner.

   

In this role, you will:    

  • Develop, implement, and oversee a company-wide safety strategy in alignment with regulatory standards (OSHA, NFPA, etc.).
  • Lead the creation of safety policies, procedures, and training programs tailored to the material handling industry, addressing both general and site-specific risks.
  • Oversee safety audits and site inspections, ensuring the identification of hazards and compliance with safety protocols.
  • Foster a proactive safety culture by promoting safety awareness, leadership involvement, and continuous education at all levels of the organization.
  • Monitor and analyze safety performance metrics (e.g., incident rates, near misses) and drive initiatives for continuous improvement.
  • Oversee incident investigations, ensuring root cause analysis and corrective actions are completed effectively and timely.

  • Monitor and analyze safety performance metrics (e.g., incident rates, near misses) and drive initiatives for continuous improvement.
  • Oversee incident investigations, ensuring root cause analysis and corrective actions are completed effectively and timely.
  • Stay up-to-date on all regulatory changes and ensure company-wide compliance with federal, state, and local safety and quality regulations (e.g., OSHA, ANSI, ISO standards).
  • Implement risk management strategies to minimize the likelihood and impact of safety or quality-related incidents.
  • Work closely with the legal department to manage safety- and quality-related claims and investigations.
  • Develop and maintain training programs for safety and quality, ensuring all employees are properly trained on protocols, regulations, and best practices.
  • Lead safety and quality education efforts for employees, including new hire orientations, annual trainings, and site-specific safety meetings.
  • Ensure that all safety and quality personnel are certified and updated on industry best practices and regulatory requirements.
  • Collaborate with project management, engineering, project management, and site management teams to integrate safety and quality controls into project planning, execution, and closeout.
  • Act as the safety and quality representative on large, high-risk projects, ensuring risk assessments, site evaluations, and safety plans are in place.
  • Work with the procurement team to ensure suppliers meet safety and quality standards and implement corrective actions when necessary.
  • Provide regular safety and quality reports to senior leadership, outlining performance metrics, areas for improvement, and action plans.
  • Lead quarterly safety and quality reviews with key stakeholders, including senior leadership and project teams, to drive accountability and continuous improvement.
  • Monitor industry trends and innovations to identify opportunities for improvement in safety and quality practices.

   

We’re Excited About You Because:    

  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Quality Management, Engineering, or a related field required.
  • Advanced degree or certifications in Safety, Quality Management, or Risk Management (e.g., CSP, CIH, CQA, ISO Lead Auditor) preferred.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in safety and quality management, preferably in the material handling or industrial sectors.
  • Proven experience leading safety and quality teams and managing programs across multiple locations.
  • Demonstrated experience with OSHA, ISO, and other relevant safety and quality standards.
  • Experience working in a project-driven environment, with a strong focus on installation, commissioning, and maintenance of material handling systems.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to influence and drive change across all levels of the organization.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to develop and implement effective solutions.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and initiatives simultaneously, ensuring adherence to deadlines and budgets.
  • Knowledge of risk management, incident investigation, and corrective action processes.
  • Proficient in the use of safety management software, Microsoft Office Suite, and other relevant tools.
