About the role:

We are looking for a Tourism Research Analyst to join our team. Reporting to the Senior Manager, Economic Insights and Planning, you will advance Destination Canada’s research objectives by conducting and analyzing key tourism performance indicators. You will use your expertise to analyze macro-economic issues, factors, and trends shaping the tourism industry, both globally and domestically. You will collect and interpret data to enhance our organization’s and the Canadian tourism industry’s understanding of the market and economic dynamics that impact us.
You will also provide market intelligence and consumer research that informs and contributes to our marketing strategies and tactics. You are also a technology enthusiast who is keen to upskill on emerging technologies and explore how analytics and storytelling could be combined with research. You are a curious and meticulous thinker with a strong marketing sensibility. Above all, you are able to take research, embed it within the appropriate context, and create a compelling narrative that tells a story to stakeholders. You have experience running research projects and as a self-starter, you are someone who can take something and run with it, through to completion.
Key accountabilities
- Collects, analyzes and interprets economic and statistical data. Develops models, projections, and forecasts.
- Evaluates the impact of various issues, factors, and events on tourism, both domestically and globally.
- Conducts competitive analysis; identifies and conducts assessments of market opportunities; develops market profiles; gathers and analyzes intelligence on domestic and international consumer needs and preferences in relation to tourism.
- Develops and delivers research products, publications and reports.
- Provides insights and advice to address economic issues, to inform destination development and marketing strategies, and to optimize performance.
- Conducts qualitative and quantitative socio-economic tourism research, studies and surveys.
- Communicates research findings and insights effectively, translating them into a compelling narrative for stakeholders.
- Responds to requests and provides advice and guidance to other departments and senior management.
- Manages suppliers and coordinates work with external partners to manage research projects.
- Pro-actively consults with business units within DC and with stakeholders in the tourism industry to identify potential trends, challenges, issues, opportunities, threats, etc. and provide evidence- and data-based analysis, proposals, briefings, and presentations
What you need
- Graduation from a recognized university with a Bachelor’s degree in statistics, economics, business or other relevant discipline or an acceptable combination of education, training and experience. Master’s degree is considered an asset.
- At least three years of relevant experience conducting economic modeling and forecasting
- Experience designing, collecting and interpreting survey data
- Experience analyzing qualitative and quantitative research
- Experience in writing reports and preparing data-driven presentations

Compensation
Salary range: $82,146 - $102,682
Within the range, the base pay offered is determined by multiple factors, including job-related skills and relevant education/experience. Please note starting salaries for new hires typically fall between the minimum and mid-point of the range, to support internal equity and allow room for progression as employees grow and excel in their roles. The range above reflects base pay only and does not include the competitive at-risk pay program and benefits that we offer!

- This role is a 14-month maternity leave cover.
- This role follows a hybrid work arrangement, where work is performed onsite at least 2-3 days per week. Please note the work arrangement is subject to change.
