Payroll Specialist

The Detroit Lions are looking for a Payroll Specialist to join their Payroll team!
Under general direction of the Payroll Director, the Payroll Specialist is responsible for assisting and executing end-to-end payroll processing for Ford Field & Allen Park staff. The role involves working with all departments within the organization, which includes addressing payroll related questions/requests from employees and Managers. This individual should be able to work independently, be well-organized, and maintain a high level of confidentiality.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (including, but not limited to):
- Field all staff payroll requests & inquiries from employees
- Review the time management system for approvals, accuracy and completeness
- Responsible for the review of timely tax filings
- Initiate monitor and record bank impound
- Transmit 401-K deductions to provider
- Set up and process Garnishment calculations
- Submit payroll deductions to appropriate authorities
- Assist Human Resources Department with updating payroll records to changes in tax status, address, direct deposit, etc.
- Review and reconcile payroll
- Oversee the creation of the payroll calendars
- Responsible for cash flow projections for staff payroll
- Review quarterly tax filings to ensure third party vendor has filed correctly
- Schedule and manager workers comp audit and assist with financial statement and 401k audits
- Work with accounting to reconcile payroll accounts in general ledger on a periodic basis
- Responsible for monitoring pay codes and ledger accounts for staff payroll
- Support Payroll Director for other entities and projects
- Help create and document best practices and procedures checklists for effective and efficient processing controls.
- Maintain employee confidence and protect payroll operations by keeping information confidential
- Complete employment verifications
NONESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Perform other duties as assigned
- Must be self-motivated and able to work independently or as part of a team
- Will accept other responsibilities and duties required by the supervisor consistent with the objectives and essential functions of this position. Such responsibilities shall be incorporated into the position description if they are ongoing
- Will advise supervisor if actual practice (activity) begins to deviate significantly from specified essential functions
QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:
- At least 3 years of experience in payroll or equivalent
- Experience with Ceridian and Dayforce strongly preferred
- Fundamental Payroll Certification (FPC) a plus
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience
- Knowledge of payroll practices
- High attention to detail
- Proficient in MS Office (including Excel)
- Must be flexible regarding work hours including weekends and holidays
- Ability to travel between Ford Field and Allen Park training facility
- A valid Driver’s License and a good driving record
