Job Summary: The Structural Estimator at Deville Steel is responsible for accurately analyzing project specifications, blueprints, and proposals to prepare comprehensive cost estimates for structural steel fabrication and erection projects. This role requires a strong understanding of steel construction, material costs, labor rates, and project timelines to ensure competitive and profitable bids.
Key Responsibilities:
- Review and interpret architectural and structural drawings, specifications, and other tender documents to determine the scope of work.
- Perform detailed quantity take-offs for steel members, connections, miscellaneous metals, and other related components.
- Solicit and evaluate quotes from suppliers and subcontractors for materials, specialized services, and equipment.
- Calculate labor hours and rates for fabrication, detailing, and erection activities.
- Assess potential risks and opportunities associated with each project.
- Prepare detailed cost breakdowns, proposals, and bid packages for submission.
- Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and other departments to refine estimates and ensure project feasibility.
- Maintain an organized database of past project costs and vendor information.
- Stay updated on industry trends, material pricing, and construction methods.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field; or equivalent experience.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in structural steel estimating.
- Proficient in reading and interpreting complex structural and architectural drawings.
- Strong knowledge of AISC (American Institute of Steel Construction) codes and standards.
- Excellent mathematical and analytical skills.
- Proficiency in estimating software (e.g., FabTrol, Tekla PowerFab, Bluebeam) and Microsoft Office Suite (especially Excel).
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple bids simultaneously under tight deadlines.
- Strong communication and negotiation skills.
