Job Summary: The Shop Foreman at Deville Steel is a pivotal leadership role responsible for overseeing and directing all aspects of the structural steel fabrication shop operations. This includes managing personnel, ensuring production efficiency, maintaining quality standards, upholding safety protocols, and optimizing workflow to meet project deadlines and budget requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
- Supervise, train, and mentor a team of structural steel fabricators, welders, and fitters.
- Plan, schedule, and assign daily work tasks to optimize production flow and meet project deadlines.
- Ensure all fabrication work adheres to project specifications, shop drawings, quality standards, and AISC codes.
- Monitor and enforce strict adherence to all safety regulations, company policies, and best practices within the shop environment.
- Conduct regular quality control checks on fabricated components, identifying and addressing any non-conformances.
- Troubleshoot production issues and implement effective solutions to maintain efficiency.
- Coordinate with the detailing department, project managers, and material suppliers to ensure timely delivery of materials and information.
- Maintain accurate production records, including timekeeping, material usage, and progress reports.
- Oversee equipment maintenance and ensure all machinery is in good working order.
- Foster a positive and productive work environment, promoting teamwork and continuous improvement.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent; vocational training or certification in welding or fabrication is a plus.
- Minimum of 7 years of experience in structural steel fabrication, with at least 3 years in a supervisory or leadership role.
- Demonstrated expertise in all aspects of structural steel fabrication, including fitting, welding, cutting, and assembly.
- Strong understanding of shop machinery and equipment (saws, drills, press brakes, welding machines, etc.).
- In-depth knowledge of welding processes (FCAW, SMAW, GMAW) and relevant AWS (American Welding Society) and AISC standards.
- Proven ability to read and interpret complex shop drawings and blueprints.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Strong problem-solving abilities and a proactive approach to management.
- OSHA 10 or 30 certification preferred; commitment to maintaining a safe work environment.
