Job Summary: The Fabricator at Deville Steel is responsible for cutting, shaping, and assembling structural steel components according to detailed shop drawings and specifications. This role requires a high level of skill in layout, fitting, and basic welding processes to produce precise and high-quality steel structures for various projects.
Key Responsibilities:
- Read and accurately interpret shop drawings, blueprints, and specifications to determine fabrication requirements.
- Lay out, measure, and mark steel components for cutting, drilling, and welding.
- Operate various fabrication equipment, including saws, drills, grinders, and torches, safely and efficiently.
- Fit and assemble steel members, ensuring proper alignment, squareness, and dimensional accuracy.
- Perform basic welding tasks (tack welding, minor repairs) as required, or assist certified welders.
- Clean and prepare surfaces for welding and painting.
- Inspect own work for quality and compliance with drawings and standards.
- Adhere to all safety protocols, procedures, and company policies.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area.
- Collaborate effectively with team members and supervisors.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in structural steel fabrication.
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting shop drawings and blueprints.
- Experience with various shop tools and equipment used in steel fabrication.
- Basic understanding of welding processes (FCAW, SMAW, GMAW) and the ability to perform tack welding.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and spatial reasoning skills.
- Ability to use measuring tools accurately (tape measure, square, level, etc.).
- Physical ability to lift heavy materials, stand for long periods, and work in a demanding environment.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing quality work.
- Commitment to working safely and following all safety guidelines.
