The Corporate Attorney assists in various matters involving DHI's legal affairs including sales and vendor contracts, intellectual property, mergers and acquisitions, strategic alliances, corporate securities, real estate, litigation and employment law, as well as privacy and risk management matters.
In this role, you'll be responsible for:
- Drafting and reviewing sales and business contracts and agreements
- Providing counsel and advice on a broad range of corporate legal matters
- Providing legal counsel on issues arising from actual or anticipated lawsuits
- Anticipating and guarding against legal risks facing the company
- Recommending and assisting with the development of company policy and position on legal issues
- Conducting and coordinating research into a variety of legal issues
- Representing the company or its officials in various legal proceedings
- Assisting in preparation of legal pleadings, motions, discovery, and stipulations, etc.
- Writing, reviewing, and editing reports, opinions, correspondence, articles, and other documents
- Assisting with the development and updating of company policies relating to legal matters
- Directing and managing outside counsel as needed
For this role, we're requiring:
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
- Excellent communication (written and oral), relationship building skills, organizational and time management skills, and the ability to interact with and advise team members and occasionally direct/manage outside counsel
- Proven ability to pick up issues quickly, to articulate complex matters clearly and succinctly both verbally and in writing
- Detail-oriented and able to work independently in an unstructured and fast-paced environment
- Strong planning, problem-solving and analytical skills
- Impeccable ethics and professional business demeanor
- Ability to manage several sensitive or urgent issues
- Excellent computer skills and proficient in desktop applications, including Microsoft Office, Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, as well as internet research
Education and Experience
- JD degree from an accredited law school and must be admitted to practice law (ideally in Iowa)
- 3+ years of experience in a wide range of legal matters
- Experience with a law firm and/or inhouse corporate legal department preferred
Compensation
Base salary of $135,000 - $160,000 per year, plus 15% annual bonus at 100% of plan targets tied to company and individual performance. Offer will depend on location and level of job-related knowledge, skills, abilities and experience.
