Engineering Director - Personalisation

Dunnhumby is looking for a Product Engineering Director to look after and grow our Personalized Offers, Digital Recommenders and Measurement area.  

Job Responsibility

  • Lead all people across the relevant engineering department, ensuring the right client focused culture, setting the standard for engineering, test, and operational excellence and driving best practice
  • Develop the purpose, remit and roadmap for their department, working closely with product management to translate and balance requirements and influence priorities and trade-offs
  • Own and manage the full budget and staffing plans for their area
  • Manage a team of Engineering Managers, lead on performance evaluations and ensure team members have individual development plans and required training.
  • Oversee all related outsourced activities. Manage all relevant 3rd party providers and the related budget and ensure high quality deliverables
  • As required, lead on the design of highly complex applications, components, software, platforms or services and the implementation of any data models, marts, flows required. Work closely with the Science, Security, Architecture, Infrastructure and UX functions to ensure appropriate architecture, infrastructure and UX for the developed products
  • Follow-up on deliverables and remove tactical obstacles to ensure the defined roadmap is delivered and desired expectations are met
  • As required, ensure the support model is correctly implemented for all products being developed both technically and in any process required to operate

What we expect from you

  • Degree or equivalent in a relevant subject.
  • 15+ years of experience with product development in the software industry 
  • Strong experience in software development and architecture
  • Experience within retail across a number of areas e.g. merchandising, planning, category management, buying, brand marketing, media activation and evaluation etc.
  • Understands software engineering practices
  • Experience in any backend programming language
  • Cloud infrastructure, management and hosting (GCP or Azure) & CI/CD
  • Software testing tools (Cypress, xUnit, Scala Test)
