Security Systems Field Engineer
Digi Security Systems is an industry leader in the design, installation and support of custom video surveillance, electronic access control, and intrusion detection solutions for public and private partners. We've built our reputation on innovation and reliable service, and we're known as the industry's experts.
Position Overview
Digi Security Systems is seeking an experienced Field Engineer to join our operations in the Dallas, TX area. Field Engineers, known internally as Elite Resource Technicians (ERGs), are the most technically advanced service providers at Digi. This is not a standard installation or service role. ERGs are called in when a system, an integration, or a partner's environment requires expertise beyond what a general technician can provide. They are expected to diagnose root causes others miss, engineer solutions where no standard playbook exists, and represent Digi's technical credibility directly to partners.
This individual must have an expert-level background in Access Control, CCTV, and Burglar/Intrusion Alarm systems, and a minimum of seven (7) years of experience in the commercial security systems field.
Please note, this role will require regular travel to the Dallas, TX area. Rate of pay is dependent on experience.
Main Responsibilities:
-
- Troubleshooting: Diagnoses complex, intermittent, or previously unresolved system issues that have escalated beyond the standard service team's ability to fix, including issues spanning multiple systems, subcontractors, or network environments. Performs root-cause analysis rather than symptom-level fixes, and serves as the final escalation point for field issues other technicians have been unable to resolve.
- Service: Responsible for the professional service of access control, CCTV, and burglar/intrusion alarm systems.
- Programming: Ensures project systems are programmed to the highest standard and organized to work well for the client. Performs advanced, customized programming to meet specific Partner needs, including global/local I/O logic, cross-panel linkages, and event-driven automations, often with no manufacturer-standard template to follow.
- Networking: Completes high level integration and programming of systems, using both networks and servers, including cross-system integration with third-party platforms (e.g., Active Directory, building management, visitor management) via APIs, SDKs, or scripting.
- Problem Solving: Takes ownership of problems that don't have a documented solution researching, testing, and engineering a fix rather than escalating or working around it. Proactively identifies systemic issues across projects or Partner sites and drives a permanent resolution rather than a one-off patch. Acts as a technical consultant during project design, flagging integration risks before they become field problems.
- Quality Control: Completes internal audits of Digi's projects and ensures the highest standard of installation is upheld. Writes course content and provides technical expertise for Digi's internal learning and development initiatives.
- Leadership: Provides on-the-job training and mentoring on-site to technicians on their team. Collaborates with other Elite Resources to create standard operating procedures, work exemplars, and training sessions.
- Communication: Respectfully communicates with all local Partner and internal staff on daily progress and all necessary information on any service call or project.
- Documentation: Completes project close out documentation, including as-built drawings, head end and installation quality pictures. Documents installation quality and completes all required close out documents.
