Application Server Administrator

 

THE OPPORTUNITY

We are seeking a self-motivated, detail-oriented person to join our Application Server Administrator team. This person will be responsible for configuring, deploying, maintaining, and optimizing web application server environments that support our enterprise applications. 

 

THE TEAM

The Application Server Administration Team supports all of Dillard’s mission-critical websites. As a member of the team, you will work with a range of technologies and platforms in a fast-paced environment.  This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys solving complex problems, automating processes, and continuously learning new technologies.  The team collaborates with one other as well as other teams in the organization to maintain and support websites.

 

WHAT YOU WILL DO

• Install, configure, and maintain application server environments (e.g., WebSphere, Tomcat, Kubernetes, etc.)
• Administer and support web applications across UNIX/Linux/AIX, Kubernetes, and Windows platforms
• Troubleshoot application server issues, analyze logs, and perform root cause analysis
• Optimize server performance and implement tuning as needed
• Collaborate with development, operations, infrastructure, and security teams
• Manage and configure CDNs and become the Akamai SME
• Develop and maintain automation scripts using Bash, Python, or Perl
• Document system configurations, procedures, and processes
• Stay informed of current and future releases/enhancements of technologies, including security releases

 

THE MUST-HAVES

• Authorization to work in the United States without sponsorship
• Ability to work onsite at Corporate Headquarters in Little Rock, AR
• Experience with application server administrations (e.g., WebSphere, Tomcat, or similar)
• Proficient with UNIX, Linux (e.g., RHEL), AIX, and Windows operating systems
• Experience working with CDNs, preferably Akamai
• Strong scripting skills in Bash, Perl, or Python
• Proven ability to troubleshoot complex issues and deliver root cause analysis
• Self-motivated and driven to get things done
• Ability to deal with changing priorities and work on several projects at a time
• Willingness to help others
• Strong communication skills, both written and verbal

 

THE NICE TO HAVES

• Experience with DevOps tools
• Understanding of container technologies (e.g., Kubernetes, Docker)
• Knowledge of Relational or Document data stores
• Experience with F5
• Familiarity with monitoring tools like Splunk, Instana, or Dynatrace
• Understanding of SSL certificates, DNS, and networking fundamentals
• Experience with Java monitoring and troubleshooting tools
• Experience with code repositories
• Understanding of Highly Available architectures
• Knowledge of LDAP

 

WITHIN 30 DAYS, YOU’LL

• Troubleshoot web/application server problems and security issues, and resolve them as necessary
• Implement updates, upgrades, and patches promptly to limit loss of service
• Collaborate with development teams to discuss, analyze, or resolve usability issues

WITHIN 60 DAYS, YOU’LL

• Conduct application and infrastructure monitoring
• Monitor usage statistics and logs, and produce reports on user and website behavior
• Have familiarity with maintaining and applying website certificates

WITHIN 90 DAYS, YOU’LL

• Support the installation, configuration, security, operations, and maintenance of all web servers, application servers, and other software
• Be able to update and maintain application server scripts
