Web/Application Server Administrator
THE OPPORTUNITY
We are seeking a detail-oriented person to join our Web Admin team. This person will be responsible for the configuration, deployment, maintenance, and optimization of web application servers that power mission-critical applications. This role is on our Web Performance team, which is responsible for installing, configuring, administering, maintaining, and tuning web servers. Additionally, this team troubleshoots web server issues and provides technical support to the development teams. As a new member of our team, you will have a mentor who will help you become acclimated to Dillard's business strategy and your role.
THE TEAM
The Web Administration Team supports all of Dillard’s mission-critical websites. As a member of the team, you will be part of a dynamic environment that utilizes a number of technologies. This is a younger team that collaborates well with each other. The role is challenging and exciting because you are able to learn all aspects of web administration and configure different applications on various servers.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
- Install, configure, and maintain application server environments
- Perform problem determination and performance tuning of applications on websites using monitoring tools and tuning techniques
- Create scripts to schedule repetitive, detailed, or off-hour tasks
- Stay informed of current and future releases/enhancements of technologies, including security releases
- Manage interactions with coworkers and vendor organizations
- Work closely with the OS Administration Teams, Database Administration Team, Information Security Team, and Network Engineers to maintain and support websites
- Attend product training as available and required
- Support production environments 24/7 through on-call rotations
- Architect environments for third-party applications
- Assist development staff with new application implementation and problem resolution
- Be the expert with all Akamai-related tasks.
THE MUST HAVES
- Authorization to work in the United States without sponsorship
- Ability to work onsite at Corporate Headquarters in Little Rock, AR
- UNIX, Linux, AIX operating systems, and Windows experience
- Scripting experience (Bash, Perl, or Python)
- Application server administration experience
- Motivated individual who gets things done
- Desire to analyze problems, propose solutions, and troubleshoot issues to resolution
- Drive to learn new technologies
- Ability to deal with changing priorities and multitask several projects
- Willingness to help others
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
THE NICE TO HAVES
- Knowledge of Relational or Document data stores
- Knowledge of or experience with Akamai Technologies
- Experience with Java monitoring and troubleshooting tools
- Experience with performance testing tools
- Experience with code repositories
- Understanding of Highly Available architectures
- Knowledge of LDAP
- Familiarity with centralized logging and performance analytics is an advantage
WITHIN 30 DAYS, YOU’LL
- Troubleshoot web/application server problems and security issues and resolve them as necessary.
- Implement updates, upgrades, and patches promptly to limit loss of service.
- Collaborate with development teams to discuss, analyze, or resolve usability issues.
WITHIN 60 DAYS, YOU’LL
- Conduct application and infrastructure monitoring.
- Monitor usage statistics and logs and produce reports on user and website behavior.
- Have familiarity with maintaining and applying website certificates.
WITHIN 90 DAYS, YOU’LL
- Support the installation, configuration, security, operations, and maintenance of all web servers, application servers, and other software.
- Be able to update and maintain application server scripts.
