Engineering Manager, Core Product

Join our Core Product team to shape the future of Discord and help build the key features that make Discord delightful and help people connect every day with their friends. We’re looking for someone who is highly driven, goal oriented, and growth minded to lead a team of full stack engineers. In this role you’ll be collaborating closely with your product, design and data partners. You’ll also have the opportunity to wear many hats – writing code, pulling data, and driving products forward.
We’re a small and mighty team – you’ll be reporting directly to the Director of Engineering for Core Product and have serious ownership of the core experiences Discord offers.
What You'll Be Doing
- Collaborate with Product, Design, Data Science, UX Research, and Marketing to drive your team’s vision and roadmap
- Make sound first-principle decisions around resourcing, and making the rationale clear to partners and team members
- Partner with your org leader on strategic planning and to improve the Engineering organization and uphold our workplace philosophy
- Helping drive product decisions with our goals in mind and holding a high bar for the quality of our features
- Use your technical expertise to move fast, make tradeoffs, and ensure your team delivers with high quality
You Will Thrive In This Role If
- You are a Discord user, and understand the core features and flow of Discord
- You have 5+ years of experience as a Software Engineer, working across the stack (mobile, web, backend) building user experiences
- You have 2+ years of experience as an Engineering Manager, leading teams of 5 or more engineers building user facing products
- You have a product sense and take pride in understanding your customers
- You have worked in a product team with clear metrics goals
- You are very goal oriented and always strive to win
- You are motivated to help your team members succeed and have experience growing engineers
- You are excited to get hands-on – we’re looking for someone to manage primarily but our leaders should feel very comfortable jumping into code to understand our product better, brainstorming technical solutions, and making changes directly.

- You have worked on a social or messaging consumer product
- You have experience with React Native
The US base salary range for this full-time position is $248,000 to $279,000 + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role and level. Within the range, individual pay is determined by additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Please note that the compensation details listed in US role postings reflect the base salary only, and do not include equity, or benefits.
