Discover Cube Los Angeles is looking for a full-time informal Science Education Instructor/Performer who is personable, energetic and professional, to join our team. Science Education Instructors fulfill our mission by educating young minds, assisting teachers, and increasing public understanding and appreciation for Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM).
Responsibilities:
- Conduct educational programs at school sites and onsite at Discovery Cube with students and families
- Conduct virtual educational programs as needed
- Teach science enrichment activities to students in grades K-8
- Assist children with hands-on projects and activities
- Attend weekly staff meetings and trainings
- Prepare for lessons and master content knowledge-hands-on training and professional development provided
- Collect, store and maintain materials
- Drive to and arrive promptly at schools throughout Southern California
- Perform other duties as needed
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree preferred
- Minimum 2 years experience working with children
- Experience working in an educational institution
- Experience working with science concepts
- Excellent written and verbal skills
- Knowledge of a second language preferable, but not required
- Possess vehicle driver’s license and insurance
- Excellent work ethic
- Must be able to lift 50lbs
- Comfortable learning and teaching basic science concepts
- Quick learner
- Flexible- this position requires the ability to maintain a flexible schedule and work in a variety of locations
- Exceptional planning and organizational skills
- Excellent communication skills
- Ability to perform and teach to school groups, educators, community-based organizations and families
- Self-motivated
- Ability to work independently and in teams
- Some evening and weekend work required
