Position:

Discovery Cube of Orange County is seeking an experienced Facilities Shift Lead to join our Facilities team. This role is responsible for ensuring the Museum maintains a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for guests and staff while providing leadership and guidance to Facilities team members during assigned shifts.

The Shift Lead supports daily custodial operations, coordinates priorities, and serves as the primary point of contact for facilities needs during their shift. This position works closely with Facilities, Exhibits, and Operations teams to ensure the proper maintenance and functionality of the facility and exhibits.

Responsibilities:

Leadership and Shift Oversight

  • Serve as the lead Facilities team member during assigned shifts, providing direction and support to custodial staff.
  • Conduct walkthroughs of exhibit floors, restrooms and dining/picnic areas throughout shift and adjust workflows accordingly.
  • Assign and prioritize daily cleaning tasks based on operational needs and guest traffic.
  • Ensure custodial standards and safety protocols are consistently followed.
  • Monitor team performance and provide guidance, coaching, and support as needed.
  • Communicate operational updates, staff coaching, and facility concerns to Facilities management.

Facility Cleanliness & Maintenance

  • Maintain daily cleanliness in all indoor and outdoor Museum spaces including exhibit floors, restrooms, offices, and public areas.
  • Perform daily cleaning tasks including sweeping, mopping, dusting, vacuuming, cleaning windows, mirrors, and handrails.
  • Monitor restrooms throughout the day to ensure they remain clean and fully stocked with necessary supplies.
  • Empty trash and recycling bins throughout the facility, both indoors and outdoors.

Operations Support

  • Assist with setup and breakdown of special events and Museum programs.
  • Perform routine floor maintenance and promptly respond to spills, accidents, or emergency clean-up situations.
  • Support the maintenance and cleanliness of exhibit areas in collaboration with the Exhibits team.

 Inventory & Supplies

  • Monitor cleaning supply inventory and communicate replenishment needs.
  • Ensure cleaning equipment and materials are properly stored and maintained.

Safety & Compliance

  • Maintain a high level of safety standards throughout the facility.
  • Identify and report facility hazards, maintenance issues, or safety concerns to Facilities management.
  • Ensure compliance with all cleaning protocols and safety procedures.

Other Duties

  • Assist Facilities leadership with training new custodial staff when needed.
  • Complete additional duties as assigned to support he operations of the Museum.

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma required
  • Minimum of 2-3 years custodial or janitorial experience
  • Prior experience leading a team or coordinating work assignments preferred
  • Proficient use of cleaning materials, methods and equipment used in janitorial service
  • Understanding of hazards, accident prevention and safety practices for janitorial work
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain high cleanliness standards
  • Ability to stand for extended periods of time without reasonable accommodation
  • Friendly demeanor and ability to interact with adults and children of all ages
  • Must be a proactive, organized, and able to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Ability to lead by example and work with a diverse team
  • Ability to lift, push, or pull up to 50 lbs
  • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed
