
MYP and Arts Coordinator

District of Columbia International School (DCI) is a public charter school serving over 1600 racially and economically diverse students in grades 6-12 from across the District of Columbia. Position Overview: DCI is hiring a full-time MYP and Arts Coordinator. The MYP and Arts Coordinator uses independent analysis, project management skills, and project management best practices to promote the IB’s pedagogical and philosophical stance, and comply with IB standards and practices to successfully develop and execute the IB Middle Years Programme at DCI. This position works closely and collaboratively with the Chief Academic Officer, the IB team and both Middle School and High School Principals.
Salary Range: $69,966 - $116,323 (Starting salary is determined by education and years of relevant experience)
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree is required.
- A Master's Degree is preferred.
- Experience in an IB World School and deep understanding of the academic culture of IB.
- Previous experience as a MYP Coordinator preferred.
- Experience in a public middle or high school that demonstrates the candidate can effectively interact with students, families, faculty and staff from diverse backgrounds.
- Previous experience as a teacher instructional coach is strongly preferred.
- Familiarity, experience, or significant interest in the Arts preferred.
- Experience in presentation of workshops, professional development, or public speaking.
- Fluency in Spanish is highly beneficial.
- Must have excellent oral and written communication skills, and superior interpersonal skills to be able to build strong working relationships with teachers, school leaders, students and families, and other key stakeholders.
- Must possess strong analytical, planning, and problem-solving skills, and plan, implement and monitor work independently as a leader and as part of a team.

- Ability to use multiple technology platforms to guide instruction and communicate with students and families and proficiency with communicating using G-Suite tools, including Gmail, is preferred.

Key Responsibilities, Qualities & Skills:
- Provide leadership to teams and individuals in the written, taught and learned elements of the MYP curricular framework and the ongoing development of both an environment of inquiry and subject-based and interdisciplinary units of inquiry.
- Develops, in coordination with the Director of Activities, the Community and Service element of the MYP.
- Develop systems and accountability structures for teams and individuals to collaborate to achieve meaningful interdisciplinary MYP units of inquiry.
- Work closely with school leaders to identify areas for improvement.
- Develop and coach teachers directly with targeted observation, feedback, and broader structures to ensure consistent improvement of teacher practice
- Develop and publish curriculum documents for the wider school community in print and online.
- Monitor and moderate MYP assessment and grading.
- Support teachers in writing and implementation of school-wide curriculum initiatives informally & formally (attendance at divisional meetings, classroom walkthroughs, and observations, organizing and leading professional development sessions).
- Work to establish relationships with other IB schools in the D.C. metro area and other countries.
- Liaise with IBA Global Center, IBMA regional office and IBCA on a regular basis.
- Promote the use of the IB Programme Resource Center within the school community and ensure that staff members are made aware of professional development opportunities.
- Ensure that copies of IB publications pertaining to the MYP are available to all staff members.
- Establish and maintain a record of completed planners.
- Publish the school’s programme of inquiry/subject overviews/course outlines
- Lead the process of developing, reviewing and revising the school’s programme of inquiry/subject overviews and course outlines
- Develop, review, and revise the school’s scope and sequence documents.
- Ensure that agreements are formulated for assessment and for teaching and learning language.
- Participate in the formation of the school’s strategic development plan.
- Ensure a high degree of communication through a variety of mediums with parents and students
- Ensure environmental stewardship, social justice, and that international mindedness is infused into pedagogy and practice.
- Embrace French, Spanish, and Chinese cultures by leading and participating in cultural activities for faculty and students
- Work with the Diploma and Careers Programme coordinators to ensure that the above elements also happen in their programmes
- Stay abreast of updates to the programme, and other, current, educational commentary pertaining to students in grades 6-10.
- Other duties as assigned.
