
Heat Treat Technician

Purpose
Responsible for executing heat treatment processes in accordance with established procedures and industry standards. This position requires sound knowledge of thermal processing and the ability to operate heat treat equipment with moderate supervision. The technician supports production efficiency and quality goals, while gaining proficiency in specification interpretation and equipment troubleshooting.
The Role
- Set up and operate heat treat equipment such as vacuum and atmospheric furnaces under general supervision.
- Interpret and follow industry specifications and work instructions (e.g., AMS 2750, CQI-9) relevant to routine production.
- Load and unload parts using appropriate fixturing to ensure uniform heat exposure and part stability.
- Perform basic post-process inspections, such as hardness checks and visual verification, to ensure conformance.
- Record process parameters and maintain documentation for traceability and quality assurance.
- Assist Level 3 technicians and supervisors with troubleshooting equipment or process anomalies.
- Participate in preventive maintenance tasks and report equipment issues promptly.
- Uphold safety procedures and cleanliness standards in compliance with 5S and lean manufacturing principles.
- May assist in training Level 1 technicians on routine operations and safety procedures.
Basic Qualifications
- Ability to lawfully access information and technology that is subject to US export controls
- High school diploma or GED required; technical certification or coursework in metallurgy, materials science, or manufacturing is a plus.
- 1–3 years of heat treat experience, preferably in aerospace and/or automotive manufacturing.
- Familiarity with heat treat specifications such as AMS 2750 and CQI-9.
- Basic understanding of pyrometry and temperature monitoring systems.
- Competent in using calipers and other basic inspection tools.
- Able to follow SOPs and work orders accurately with moderate supervision.
Work Environment
- Work is performed on a manufacturing floor with exposure to heat, noise, and heavy machinery.
- Physical requirements include standing for long periods, lifting up to 50 lbs, bending, and wearing required PPE.
Pay Range
$23 - $32 USD
