
Senior Packaging Engineer

Purpose
We are seeking an experienced and driven Sr. Packaging Engineer to develop and oversee the logistics infrastructure across both companies. This role requires deep understanding of complex manufacturing supply chains, packaging design for both inbound/outbound transportation and lineside manufacturing presentation, and the flexibility to support both product development and scaled production environments.
You will lead efforts to optimize packaging quoting and design for new program launches, support regulatory requirements, develop and implement lineside packaging requirements for production, manage third-party packaging providers, and enhance the overall agility and efficiency of our operations. You will work closely with teams across engineering, program managements, logistics, procurement, production, and finance to ensure packaging requirements align with fast-moving project timelines and long-term growth goals.
The Role
Transportation Packaging
- Lead the design, development, quoting, and procurement of packaging solutions for outbound finished goods for both automotive and aerospace & defense programs.
- Review inbound packaging solutions across highest spend commodities, and work with suppliers and vendors to improve packaging solutions that will increase utilization/reduce packaging piece costs.
Manufacturing Support
- Design lineside conveyance solutions to support both vehicle and printed part manufacturing.
- Provide systematic support regarding sub inventory and locator naming conventions, labeling standards, and warehouse scan ability.
- Provide feedback to warehouse team to support processes for end-to-end material handling and flow.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Serve as packaging SME (subject matter expert) on cross-functional teams with engineering, R&D, finance, compliance, and customer support.
- Provide packaging related expertise for dangerous goods/regulatory topics.
- Be the primary forecast and budget owner for all packaging related costs on the inbound direct and outbound indirect side.
Basic Qualifications
- Ability to lawfully access information and technology that is subject to US export controls
- Bachelor’s degree in Packaging Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, Supply Chain, or related discipline.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in packaging engineering, with a history of designing and implementing packaging solutions in the automotive or aerospace industries.
- Demonstrated success in managing packaging programs in support of international logistics and global supply chains.
- Expertise in CAD software (e.g. SolidWorks, Catia) for 3D modeling and packaging design, as well as simulation tools for structural analysis and optimization.
- In-depth knowledge of packaging materials, including plastics, composites, foams, and corrugated cardboard, with a focus on sustainable and environmentally friendly options.
- Strong understanding of packaging testing standards (e.g., ISTA, ASTM, ISO) and experience conducting physical and environmental testing to validate packaging performance.
- Proficiency with ERP systems (e.g., Oracle, SAP), TMS tools, and advanced Excel/Google Sheets.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in early-stage or scale-up manufacturing environments.
- Familiarity with additive manufacturing logistics or just-in-sequence automotive production.
- APICS, CLTD, Six Sigma, or Lean certifications a plus.

Compensation
At Divergent, our pay range is based on the level of the job. For this role, we will consider candidates at levels ENG 04 - ENG 05 as evaluated through our interview process.
- E04/Engineer: $106,000 - $145,750
- E05/Senior Engineer: $122,400 - $168,300
