Overview
The Portable Radio Program Technician provides technical and training support for Navy Expeditionary Combat Command (NECC) portable and mobile communication systems, including L3Harris and Motorola platforms and associated Depot Level Repairables (DLRs). Responsibilities include conducting technical evaluations, diagnostics, troubleshooting, and depot-level repairs to ensure system reliability and operational readiness. The technician also delivers virtual and in-person training on system operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting procedures, supporting fleet personnel in the effective employment and sustainment of mission-critical communications equipment across expeditionary environments.
Responsibilities
- Provide technical evaluations, diagnostics, troubleshooting, and repairs of Depot Level Repairables (DLR), L3Harris, and Motorola mobile
- and portable communication systems.
- Provide technical support.
- Assist with maintaining and updating Bench Stock Repair Parts
- Assist with repair demand planning for the Radio Program
- When necessary, provide on-site technical assistance/support
- Ensure compliance with Allowance Parts Lists
- Possess working knowledge of Power Amplifiers, Repeaters, and Communications Systems
- Perform virtual and onsite Warfighter training on Portable Radio Equipment
- Develop a curriculum in support of the Naval Expeditionary Combat Commands
- Conduct component-level repair of radio system PCB assemblies, to include soldering.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED. Training Certification
- Eight (8) years of experience in a technical trade or craft such as electricity, electronics, surveying, aircraft, or ship fundamentals, to include: developing appropriate course material, hands-on practical experience with techniques being taught, researching the latest technical discipline practices, establishing training needs, developing goals and objectives, and developing training programs.
- Cybersecurity Work Force (CSWF) qualified in 9 months.
- Navy’s Basic Instructor Training (either NEC 805A or 9502) or a current industry standard trainer certification, such as Microsoft Certified Trainer (MCT) or CompTIA Certified Technical Trainer (CTT+).
- Hands-on experience with Navy Shipboard Networks, including CANES, or other TACNET systems.
- Experience should include: three (3) of the following four (4) areas: Network Administration, System Administration, Technical Documentation, and Training.
- Recognized expert who has demonstrated expertise in C4I Networks and System Administration.
- Experience in training TACNET or other Navy C4I systems.
- Experience should include defining training requirements, use of Navy Authoring tools (CPM/LOM, AIM, etc.) to develop Navy training curriculum, and application of Instructional System Design (ISD) process.
- Familiar with L3 Harris Radio Equipment and Technical Documentation Support
- Experienced Electronics Technician and Military trainer.
- Able to perform tests on a variety of electronic equipment, including Tactical Radios such as L3HARRIS, communications equipment/systems, circuitry components, computer experience, and proficient with test equipment.
- Experience with AN/PRC-117G, AN/PRC-150, AN/PRC-117F, AN/PRC-160, MUOUS, Multichannel Tactical Radios AN/117G SOTM, and associated equipment.
- Demonstrate expert experience using electronic test equipment such as (Signal Generators, Multimeters, Network Analyzers, Spectrum Analyzers)
- Active Secret Clearance walking through the door
