Senior Commercial Loan Underwriter
The Senior Commercial Loan Underwriter will lead the underwriting for loans considered by DLP Bank. Loans will be focused in residential CRE project types (residential project construction, multifamily, build to rent portfolios, manufactured housing, etc)., but will include other common commercial and consumer loan types. This individual will need to exemplify sound critical reasoning and conviction. This role will be tasked with assisting with first-look valuation and execution analysis for incoming submissions, and following through with a comprehensive underwriting of proposed borrowers and guarantors, including project level CRE underwriting, cash flow analyses and sensitizations, debt service coverage analyses, and guarantor global cash flow analyses. Role will include underwriting loans of various sizes including loans $25MM+.
Background in CRE underwriting is required and other Bank underwriting experience is beneficial. Role will include helping to build out underwriting procedures and tools to facilitate the Bank's growing lending platform. The Senior Underwriter is also expected to help train and develop junior underwriters as the Bank continues to expand. This role will support the Chief Credit Officer.
What you have already achieved: (Requirements)
- Bachelor's degree in finance, economics, business, or a related field.
- 6-10+ years experience in bank lending, private credit, or credit underwriting with experience in multifamily lending.
- Strong credit analysis skills such as analyzing financial statements, conducting due diligence, and evaluating the financial health of owner/operator or developers organization.
- Experience in understanding lending regulations, disclosure requirements, and compliance frameworks.
- Experience leading and training credit analysts.
- Proficiency in financial modeling to include building financial models, conducting sensitivity analysis, and stress testing assumptions.
What you are great at: (Responsibilities)
- Play an integral part of the Bank Credit team and provide direct support to the Chief Credit Officer, mentor junior team members, while remaining a resource to the Loan Officers, Portfolio Managers and other Operating departments.
- Maintain a “first contact point,” of the pipeline and quickly provide support on loan sizing based on projected cash flows and estimated valuation. Help to develop loan structures that mitigate risk including covenants, guarantees, collateral packages, and reporting requirements.
- Lead comprehensive underwriting analyses of Borrowers and Guarantors to ensure loans meet credit and regulatory standards. Perform comprehensive review of projections and related credit statistics in consideration of historical performance, budgets, industry/market data, and appraisals and other third party reports. Craft analytical narratives highlighting the Borrower's ability to perform and exit.
- Conduct global cash flow analyses of owners/guarantors in order to determine aggregate cash flows and their related ability to support a subject loan.
- Review and validate third party reports (appraisals, environmental, field exams, PCRs, etc).
- Participate in Credit Committee meetings and provide written support toward actionable recommendations.
- Continuously provide feedback and suggestions on ways that DLP Bank can improve its processes and procedures.
