About the Smart Buildings team at DLR Group

Our certified Commissioning Authorities, Energy Management experts and Professional Engineers combine design phase expertise with hands-on functional testing and advanced operational performance analytics. This ensures projects are delivered at peak performance on Day One of operations, and are equipped for long-term efficiency and success.
We focus the Commissioning process to be the formal framework for delivering low-carbon, high-performance designs that elevate the human experience and deliver real value for building owners by prioritizing operational efficiency, occupant health and resilience.
Position Summary
In this position, you will be the Project Manager for multiple high-profile, national and international Commissioning projects across DLR Group’s core sectors including Workplace, Federal, Education, Hospitality, Healthcare, Justice & Civic, Mixed-Use and more. You will manage a commissioning team and work with these integrated design teams of Architects, Engineers and specialty designers, providing commissioning expertise
As a Senior Commissioning Authority, you will manage multiple projects at a time, perform thorough design and construction reviews, conduct commissioning meetings, and oversee functional testing. Expect to be traveling approximately 10–30% of your time in a typical month. In this role there is potential for rapid growth opportunities as we expand our Smart Buildings team.
The successful candidate will:
- Lead commissioning activities across all phases of the project with multiple trades and client management
- Review design and construction documents for compliance with Owner’s Project Requirements and Basis of Design
- Oversee the implementation of commissioning plans, specifications, pre-functional checklists, and functional performance tests.
- Provide subject matter expertise regarding that impact system performance.
- Collaborate with the leadership team to identify and pursue new business opportunities.
- Meet with potential clients, develop relationships, and present the value of our commissioning services.
- Mentor and train junior staff, helping to build a capable and cohesive commissioning team.
Required Qualifications:
- +15 years of hands-on experience in commissioning building systems
- Strong knowledge of the building design and construction industry, with expertise in the commissioning process for new construction, major renovations, and existing buildings
- In-depth understanding of energy use, indoor environmental quality, operations, and maintenance in building commissioning
- Technical expertise in MEP and building automation systems, with the ability to evaluate and test system performance
- Excellent written and oral communication skills, along with strong organizational and computer skills
- Commissioning certification from a recognized body (ACG, BCA, or ASHRAE)
- Possess a sense of self-direction and the ability to manage your own time and aid others to ensure projects are on schedule and within budget
Preferred Qualifications
- Licensed Professional Engineer
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or related field.
- Familiarity with, or willingness to learn, SkySpark as a Connected-Commissioning/Monitoring-based Commissioning tool is a plus.

The suggested pay range for this position is:
Pay Range
$100,800 - $177,320 USD
