
Project Director - Energy Exhibition
JOB PURPOSE:
Lead, manage, and develop designated exhibition product(s), with responsibilities spanning team leadership and oversight, budget planning and financial performance, marketing strategy, sales and agent coordination, operational execution, and strategic positioning to enhance brand and industry presence.
Drive strategic growth by identifying and pursuing new market opportunities, developing and executing business expansion strategies, and fostering long-term partnerships. Analyse market trends, build strong relationships with key stakeholders and clients, and collaborating cross-functionally to deliver innovative, revenue-generating solutions.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Sales/Sponsorship Delivery
- Track and analyse competitor activity to inform and enhance event strategies
- Build and sustain strong relationships with strategic partners
- Oversee database management to ensure optimal efficiency and data accuracy
- Champion and implement best practices across the sales function
- Identify and pursue potential customer opportunities
- Strengthen and expand relationships with existing clients
- Meet or exceed sales and sponsorship revenue targets
- Recruit, coordinate, and manage a network of sales agents
Customer Focus
- Understand customer needs and tailor solutions to meet those needs
- Achieve new business and ensure customer retention rates
Strategy
- Maintain good knowledge of and contacts within relevant industry sectors
- Create and develops new ideas for the event.
- Monitor competitive show strategies
- Segmentation of market
- Manage the executive and technical committee process, recruit key members of each committee and influencers.
- Proven launch background and success markers in international markets
Business Development
- Develop exhibition brand(s)
- Maximise business development opportunities for each Exhibition
- Use internal resource to develop events into new markets
- Identify and pursue new business opportunities to drive revenue and growth
- Develop and implement strategic business development plans
- Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, partners, and key stakeholders
- Lead high-value contract negotiations and deal closure
- Analyse market trends, customer needs, and competitive landscape
- Collaborate with marketing, sales, and product teams to align business goals
- Oversee development of proposals, presentations, and pitches
- Manage and grow a robust sales pipeline
- Monitor performance metrics and report on business development outcomes
- Support long-term strategic planning and brand positioning initiatives
People management /Team Focus

Stakeholder Management
- Build, manage, and strengthen relationships with key stakeholders
- Monitor and maintain effective partnerships with suppliers
- Supervise and optimize floor plan layout and development
- Manage and nurture productive relationships with venue providers
Finance
- Set realistic annual budgets aligned with the approved rate card
- Regularly review revenue and costs using the budget tracker to monitor performance against budget
- Implement a monthly forecasting process to project final event outcomes within the budget tracker
- Deliver revenue and contribution targets in line with approved budgets and forecasts
- Increase event profit margins in alignment with the five-year strategic plan
- Ensure accurate and timely invoicing in accordance with contractual terms
- Manage debtor collections to ensure full payment is received prior to the event
- Produce high-quality weekly and monthly management reports, submitted on time
- Prepare financial plans and budgets to support regional expansion initiatives
Marketing
- Lead the development of marketing strategies and objectives for the event(s)
- Collaborate with the Marketing Manager to boost visitor numbers, enhance visitor quality, and improve the overall event experience
- Build and maintain strong relationships with key industry trade publications
- Ensure all marketing materials align with DMG’s branding guidelines and standards
- Oversee database growth and accuracy in coordination with the Database Department and Marketing Director
Content
- Gain an understanding of technical by enhancing knowledge of the subject matter and industry trends
- Direct the call for papers (CFP), organise, evaluate, and select submissions
- Ensure the alignment of conference content with strategic objectives and overall event goals
- Drive coordination with speakers, review proposals, and maintaining a high level of quality control to produce successful conference programs
QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE, & SKILLS:
Minimum Qualifications and Knowledge
- No qualifications necessary a proven track record in Event Management is essential
Minimum Experience
- 10 - 12 years in events
- 5 - 7 years project management
- 5 - 7 years people management
- 3 - 5 Years Stakeholder Management
- Budget control and forecasting
