Software Engineering Manager - Select by DoiT

Remote Canada; Remote US

The Opportunity

As an Engineering Manager, you will lead and grow a team responsible for building and scaling SELECT, DoiT's cloud cost management platform. You'll play a critical role in shaping the product roadmap, technical strategy and the growth of the engineering organization.

This is a hands-on technical leadership role where you'll partner first and foremost with our engineers, and with product, design, and executive leadership to drive execution, improve engineering effectiveness, and deliver meaningful outcomes for customers. While this is not an individual contributor role, we're looking for a leader with a history of product and engineering excellence who can confidently set technical direction, scrutinise and guide engineering designs and decisions, and develop our engineers.

You'll join a highly collaborative, fast-moving team operating with startup agility while benefiting from the resources and scale of DoiT. As SELECT continues to grow following its acquisition by DoiT, you'll have a significant opportunity to set the direction of the product, team, and engineering culture.

Responsibilities

Technical Leadership

  • Partner with engineers to design scalable, reliable, and maintainable products across our application, data platform, and infrastructure. We use scalable to reflect both performance and also from a product cohesion and expansion perspective.
  • Lead technical discussions and architectural reviews, helping teams make thoughtful trade-offs between speed, quality, scalability, and customer impact.
  • Drive engineering excellence through strong development practices, code quality standards, observability, reliability, and operational maturity.
  • Provide technical guidance across technologies including Python, FastAPI, Postgres, dbt, Dagster, Snowflake, and cloud-native services.
  • Ensure decisions consciously evaluate short term and long term considerations of speed, maintainability, and growth.

Team Leadership & People Management

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing team of engineers through coaching, feedback, and career development.
  • Create an environment that promotes accountability, ownership, collaboration, and continuous learning.
  • Conduct performance management, goal setting, growth planning, and regular one-on-one meetings.
  • Partner with Talent Acquisition and leadership to attract, interview, and hire exceptional engineering talent.
  • Help scale the organization while maintaining a strong engineering culture and high hiring bar.

Execution & Cross-Functional Leadership

  • Partner closely with Product and Design to align technical execution with business priorities and customer needs.
  • Drive planning, prioritization, and delivery across multiple initiatives while balancing technical investments and feature development.
  • Identify risks, dependencies, and operational bottlenecks early and proactively drive resolution.
  • Foster strong communication across engineering, product, sales, and leadership.
  • Establish and improve engineering processes that increase team effectiveness and delivery predictability.

Operational Excellence

  • Own team health, and operational performance.
  • Drive improvements in reliability, performance, incident response, and service ownership.
  • Champion a culture of continuous improvement through retrospectives, measurement, and experimentation.
  • Ensure teams maintain a high standard of documentation, testing, and technical decision-making.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of software engineering experience, including experience building and operating production systems.
  • 2+ years of engineering leadership or management experience leading software engineering teams.
  • Strong technical background in backend engineering, data modelling and data-intensive systems.
  • Experience working with technologies such as Python, FastAPI, Postgres, dbt, Dagster, Snowflake, or similar modern data platforms.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead architectural discussions and influence technical direction without being the primary individual contributor.
  • Experience partnering with Product and cross-functional stakeholders to deliver customer-focused outcomes.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to engage engineers, executives, and business stakeholders.
  • Comfortable operating in a fast-paced, ambiguous, and highly collaborative environment.

Bonus Points

  • Experience building SaaS products in startup or high-growth environments.
  • Experience with FinOps, cloud cost management, cloud infrastructure, or data platform products.
  • Experience leading distributed remote engineering teams.
  • Experience scaling teams and processes following periods of rapid growth or acquisition.

What Success Looks Like

In your first year, you will:

  • Support, maintain and grow engagement and performance in the engineering team.
  • Increase delivery velocity while maintaining technical quality.
  • Establish strong cross-functional partnerships across Product, Design, and Leadership.
  • Shape the roadmap and architecture of the SELECT platform.
  • Raise the bar for engineering execution, operational excellence, and team development.
  • Play a key role in scaling both the product and the organization as SELECT continues its next phase of growth within DoiT.

If you believe you belong to any of the categories of protected veterans listed below, please indicate by making the appropriate selection. As a government contractor subject to the Vietnam Era Veterans Readjustment Assistance Act (VEVRAA), we request this information in order to measure the effectiveness of the outreach and positive recruitment efforts we undertake pursuant to VEVRAA. Classification of protected categories is as follows:

A "disabled veteran" is one of the following: a veteran of the U.S. military, ground, naval or air service who is entitled to compensation (or who but for the receipt of military retired pay would be entitled to compensation) under laws administered by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs; or a person who was discharged or released from active duty because of a service-connected disability.

Voluntary Self-Identification of Disability

Form CC-305
OMB Control Number 1250-0005
Expires 04/30/2026

Why are you being asked to complete this form?

We are a federal contractor or subcontractor. The law requires us to provide equal employment opportunity to qualified people with disabilities. We have a goal of having at least 7% of our workers as people with disabilities. The law says we must measure our progress towards this goal. To do this, we must ask applicants and employees if they have a disability or have ever had one. People can become disabled, so we need to ask this question at least every five years.

Completing this form is voluntary, and we hope that you will choose to do so. Your answer is confidential. No one who makes hiring decisions will see it. Your decision to complete the form and your answer will not harm you in any way. If you want to learn more about the law or this form, visit the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP) website at www.dol.gov/ofccp.
