Manager, New Verticals - Central Operations & Efficiency

New York, NY; San Francisco, CA; Seattle, WA; Chicago, IL; Los Angeles, CA; Tempe, AZ; Washington D.C.

About the Team

Our New Verticals Strategy & Operations team is re-inventing the way consumers think about grocery, convenience, alcohol and retail delivery through both our first-party and third-party operations businesses. This team works on both DashMart (1P business) and through third-party merchant partnerships which enable us to offer on-demand deliveries from both SMB and enterprise merchants across grocery, convenience alcohol and retail storefronts. The merchants own the inventory, we fulfill and deliver them! Our Central Operations team is the heartbeat of the New Verticals Strategy & Operations team that enables us to power a robust logistic platform through a high-quality, speedy and efficient network - for both DashMarts and third party partners.

About the Role

We are hiring a few Managers on our Central Operations team to innovate and improve the way we think about operational efficiency. This role sits within our Logistics pod and is accountable for driving step-change improvements in performance—by improving efficiency through our systems and fulfillment processes. You will own efficiency metrics end to end by enabling operational processes, building systematic tools and net-new ways of operating, and report on metrics. You will partner closely with other operators, product managers, engineers and many more internal stakeholders to scale solutions.

We’re looking for someone who thrives in fast-paced, operational environments and brings a strong ownership mentality. You should be comfortable diving deep into data, understanding how logistics systems drive frontline behavior, and translating insights into concrete system and process improvements. This is a highly visible role with outsized impact on operational efficiency, cost performance, and overall execution.

You will report to the Director of our New Verticals Logistics pod within our Central Strategy & Operations team. This is a non-technical role and sits under our Strategy & Operations job family, under the office of the COO. We operate in a hybrid model - you will spend some time in your home office, in person via offsites and testing products in the field.

You’re excited about this opportunity because you will…

  • Operate. You will understand the business you support inside and out. You build strategy and tools by understanding your end user - whether that’s the dasher, merchant, employee or consumer.
  • Experiment. You will identify operational gaps, identify product features and test/scale those product builds in partnership with product & engineering.
  • Scale. You’ll transform strategies into operational experiments that create measurable and scalable outcomes, informing your larger initiative implementation plans.
  • Build. You’ll do whatever it takes to launch, get 1% better every day, and scale something completely new. This means everything from high-level strategy to nitty-gritty operational details.
  • Analyze. You’ll assess the operational and financial impacts of your decisions, and iterate based on data.
  • Lead and collaborate. You’ll work with a cross-functional team, including local operations, engineering, and product

We’re excited about you because…

  • You solve problems from first principles. You’re excited to solve problems in innovative ways, and you resist “this is how it’s always been done” thinking.
  • You’re equally comfortable operating at 10,000 feet and 1 foot. You don’t hesitate to get in the weeds and operate at the lowest level of detail, but you’re just as comfortable thinking long-term and inspiring a team. No job is beneath you.
  • You’re unafraid of ambiguity. Rapid change and learning is exciting to you, and you thrive in ambiguous, startup environments
  • You’re analytical. You let data win arguments, and you’re comfortable pulling your own data in SQL or modeling in Excel.
  • You have 6-8+ years of professional experience. Ideally you have experience in product operations, logistics manufacturing, engineering, consulting, launch operations or business operations.
  • You have completed your BS/BA Degree. Bonus points if you have an MBA!
