Sanitation Supervisor, 1st Shift

Location - This role is onsite at our Burr Ridge production facility.
Shift - This role supports first shift and is typically Monday - Friday from 4am - 12:30pm.
About the role:
The Sanitation Supervisor oversees all sanitation activities within the plant to ensure a clean, safe, and compliant production environment during their shift. This role is responsible for leading and developing sanitation staff, verifying that cleaning procedures are effective and completed as assigned, and coordinating with Production, Quality, and Maintenance to support efficient operations.
The Sanitation Supervisor will direct and assign Sanitors for cleaning of equipment and work areas to support daily operations while providing guidance and resources to maintain sanitation and food safety standards.
Responsibilities:
Sanitation Oversight
- Oversee and verify the cleaning and sanitizing of equipment and the facility according to SSOPs and the MSS
- Ensure proper disassembly and reassembly of equipment during cleaning
- Monitor chemical and supply usage, concentrations and inventory in collaboration with suppliers
- Support with troubleshooting and escalations during failed post-sanitation swabbing
- Assist with pre-op, post-op and changeover inspections as needed
- Assist with special cleaning projects, troubleshooting of issues, and RCA for failed sanitation swabs
- Able to develop SSOPs
Food Safety and Compliance
- Partner with FSQA to conduct and verify pre- and post-op inspections
- Support internal audits, environmental monitoring programs, and allergen cleaning
- Validate CIP/COP processes to ensure cleaning is effective and efficient
- Follow all GMPs (Good Manufacturing Practices) to prevent cross-contamination during cleaning
- Identify and report food safety hazards such as damaged equipment, pests or unsanitary conditions
- Ensure accurate and timely completion of all sanitation activity and verification records
Safety
- Conduct or verify chemical titrations to ensure appropriate dilution
- Help reinforce a safety culture across the organization
- Fully proficient in Lockout/Tagout procedures and able to coach and train new employees
- Promote a culture of continuous safety improvement
Leadership and Team Management
- Supervise, coach and develop sanitation technicians across assigned shifts
- Schedule and assign daily tasks to meet production needs and pre-op timelines
- Conduct performance evaluations, provide feedback, and support employee training
- Ensure proper staffing levels, manage attendance
- Provide training for temporary and new hire sanitation employees, including production team members that assist with sanitation activities, including safe and efficient uses of products and procedures
- Identify sanitation gaps during the shift and trend performance in order to proactively address them
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Lead the handoff of production equipment to and from overnight sanitation contractor
- Participate in root cause analysis during sanitation process failures that lead to downtime, and take responsibility for corrective and preventive actions that are identified
- Coordinate with maintenance during equipment repairs and scheduling of preventive maintenance activities that are required to complete sanitation activities
- Attend cross-functional shift huddles to report on sanitation performance
- Calculate shift-level KPIs and provide timely reporting as assigned
Other Job Functions
- Act as a backup as needed and perform all sanitation team member activities
- Performs other duties as assigned
Experience & Skills we value:
Required
- Strong Knowledge of sanitation and regulatory including from FDA/USDA, OSHA, GFSI schemes
- Swabbing methods
- Experienced team leader
- Critical thinking to establish prioritization during changing production demands
- Environmental monitoring programs in ready-to-eat environments
- Ability to read and interpret SOPs, MSS, SDSs and production/sanitation schedules
- Experience with CIP systems, automated sanitation and sanitation chemical programs
- 3-5 years of sanitation experience in a food or beverage manufacturing environment
- 1-3 years of leadership experience (lead, trainer, supervisor or similar)
- GMP and basic safety training (HazCom, LOTO)
- High School Diploma
Nice to have and/or you’ll learn:
- Experience conducting internal audits, environmental monitoring and/or pre-op inspections
- Ability to re-prioritize and respond to changing demands to support production
- Strong communicator - partner with production and manage a team
- Experience in developing staff via training program
- Bi-lingual
- Advanced safety training (FLT, safety certifications, etc)

Base Pay range for this position:
- $49,000 - $69,000 annually
- Target Annual Bonus: 15% of base salary
The final discretionary compensation that will be offered for this role depends on a variety of factors, including job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and market location.
Work Authorization Requirement:
This position requires current authorization to work in the United States. We do not provide visa sponsorship, including support for F-1 Optional Practical Training (OPT), STEM OPT extensions, or other temporary work authorization programs.
