Downtown Music Publishing, an Operating Company of Downtown Music Holdings, is looking for a Senior Accountant to manage our royalty financial reporting reconciliation and month-end close process. Level will be determined based on relevant prior experience. The ideal candidate will ensure the accuracy of the royalty income statement activity and balance sheet positions in the financial statements. This hybrid position can be based out of our New York, Nashville, Los Angeles or Portland office.
What you'll do:
- Partner with the Royalties Department to streamline the high volume royalty, distribution, and reporting processes
- Become the bridge between the royalties operation team and the financial US GAAP accounting department to properly translate the royalty activity and appropriately capture financial statement impacts
- Support financial reporting team with reconciliations of accounts impacted by these processes (i.e. Royalties Payable and Advances)
- Develop / Build additional analysis related to key accounts/reconciliations to identify business insights and performance measures
- Ensure key royalty processing systems are properly implemented and accomplishing the necessary operational objectives (Music Maestro Counterpoint Royalty Software, Microsoft Dynamics, Trolley, Bill.com)
- Develop key report listing from Music Maestro that are necessary for audit support and proper internal control reconciliations on the Royalty P&L and Balance Sheet accounts
- Ensure accounts receivable process for sync department is properly managed and receivable balance information is accurately provided to financial reporting team
- Lead and train third party accountants to assist in all of the above, and identify if certain processes require investment for in-house personnel
- Over time, expand expertise and partner with other Operating Companies in the Downtown Group to help create and manage a first in class financial operations organization
- Implement the process to properly reflect transfer pricing relationships amongst the various legal entities that comprise the Publishing business to meet the needs of the multiple reporting stakeholders
You are / have:
- 3-5 years of experience as a CPA or in internal operational accounting, music industry preferred
- Highly proficient in excel by leveraging formulas to build efficient workpapers that are integral to repeatable processes, and have the ability to train others how to use the workpapers
- Experience working with large datasets and performing reconciliations on the datasets to ensure key information can easily be summarized and extracted
- Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously in a dynamic high-growth environment
- Strong organization and communication skills, with the ability to work well cross-functionally
- Analytical mindset with the ability to ask thoughtful questions and a commitment to continuous improvement
- Meticulous attention to detail and a commitment to delivering high quality and consistent work product
- Solutions focused / ability to contribute to process improvements

Downtown provides base salary ranges for all positions located in the United States at the time of posting. The hiring range for this position is $70,000-$100,000 annually. As a candidate for this position, your salary and related elements of compensation will be contingent upon various factors including, but not limited to, work experience, geographic location and relevant skills. This range does not include any other variable compensation components.
