Senior Software Engineer

Seattle, Washington, United States

Join one of the world's fastest growing fintech startups! We're looking for smart, motivated team members who want to change the way people pay their bills, helping them to improve their financial success.

Full Title: Senior Software Engineer, Platform

Location

Bellevue, WA. This role offers the flexibility to primarily work remotely, with team members typically going into the office 1-2 times per month for collaborative activities such as team design sessions and company events.

Role Overview

You will be instrumental in designing, developing, and operating the critical backend services and APIs that power our innovative bill pay platform. Working in a dynamic startup environment, you'll leverage your expertise to build scalable, resilient, and secure systems. This role requires a blend of strong technical leadership, hands-on development, and a commitment to operational excellence, as you contribute to the core infrastructure that drives our company's success.

About You

You're more than just a developer; you're a pragmatic and driven engineer who thrives on building impactful solutions in a fast-paced environment. You understand that in a startup, especially in the fintech space, balancing thoughtful execution with speed is paramount. You're excited by the prospect of shaping products that handle significant financial transactions and directly contribute to our company's success.

We'd love to hear from you if:

  • You're a Pragmatic Problem-Solver: You have a strong bias for action and excel at finding the right balance between high-quality engineering and rapid delivery. You're intentionally curious, critically assess business goals against technical effort, and won't hesitate to propose thoughtful trade-offs – like how cutting 5% of scope might save 50% of effort – to help us make the right calls.
  • You Seek to Understand the "Why": You're naturally curious about our business, the fintech landscape, and specifically the bill pay industry. You strive to understand the company's goals because you know it helps you build more effective and targeted solutions.
  • You Take Ownership of Quality and Security: You see features through from idea to operation, taking deep accountability for their success, reliability, and security. Given that we handle financial transactions, you have an ingrained commitment to software craftsmanship and proactively build robust, secure, and scalable systems.
  • You're a Collaborative Force: You believe that the best outcomes are achieved through teamwork. You're an excellent communicator, actively share your knowledge, prioritize team goals, and enjoy mentoring fellow engineers, helping to elevate the entire team's capabilities.
  • You Drive Continuous Improvement: You possess a strong desire to learn and grow, constantly seeking ways to improve not only your own skills but also our team's processes, codebase, and overall engineering culture.
  • You're Resilient and Adaptable: You navigate ambiguity with confidence and view unexpected challenges or shifting priorities as opportunities to learn and innovate. You're comfortable making architectural decisions that support both immediate needs and long-term scalability.

Responsibilities

System Design & Architecture:

  • Contribute to the design of scalable, resilient, and maintainable backend services and APIs.

  • Design, implement, and secure performant RESTful APIs, ensuring consistency and usability.

Write clean, efficient, well-documented, and well-tested code.Operations & Infrastructure:

  • Own the full lifecycle of your services, from design and development to deployment and operation (“you build it, you run it”).
  • Participate in a shared on-call rotation schedule to respond to and resolve critical production issues outside of standard business hours.

Collaboration & Process:

  • Collaborate effectively with product managers, engineers, and other stakeholders to determine requirements and deliver solutions.
  • Stay current with industry trends and advancements in backend development and cloud technologies.

Who We Are

Each year U.S. households spend over $3.8 trillion - about one third of all consumer spending - on recurring bill payments. While staying on top of these bills is the single largest determinant for consumer financial health, organizing and paying them can be a time-consuming and frustrating chore. Since its inception, doxo has been on a mission to simplify and reduce the anxiety of staying on top of bills, empowering consumers to improve their financial health. Our company was founded on the simple idea that there should be an easy and more secure way for consumers to pay all of their bills through a single account, with any payment method, on any device.

As consumers shift more bill payments online and to mobile, doxo continues to experience rapid growth. To date, over eight million doxo users across 97% of U.S. zip codes have paid bills through the payment network, across more than 45 different service categories. With more than 120,000 payable billers, doxo’s proprietary, crowd-sourced provider directory is the largest in the nation.

doxo is consistently recognized as both an innovative company and a great place to work by the likes of Inc. Magazine, Deloitte, Comparably, and BuiltIn. Come join us as we grow the team to further accelerate growth, forever changing the bill pay landscape to focus on the customer.

Form CC-305
OMB Control Number 1250-0005
Expires 04/30/2026

Why are you being asked to complete this form?

We are a federal contractor or subcontractor. The law requires us to provide equal employment opportunity to qualified people with disabilities. We have a goal of having at least 7% of our workers as people with disabilities. The law says we must measure our progress towards this goal. To do this, we must ask applicants and employees if they have a disability or have ever had one. People can become disabled, so we need to ask this question at least every five years.

Completing this form is voluntary, and we hope that you will choose to do so. Your answer is confidential. No one who makes hiring decisions will see it. Your decision to complete the form and your answer will not harm you in any way. If you want to learn more about the law or this form, visit the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP) website at www.dol.gov/ofccp.
