The Opportunity
The Senior IT Systems Engineer designs, builds, and supports the infrastructure DP Electric runs on, both the virtual systems and the physical technology inside our buildings. You will own servers, virtualization, storage, networking, firewalls, identity, and cloud, alongside alarm, door access, camera, and A/V systems, and keep all of it available, secure, and recoverable.
This is the senior tier of the systems engineering series, and scope is what sets it apart. You will drive complex, multi-disciplinary initiatives from concept through completion, including new building buildouts, network infrastructure, surveillance, access control, and ERP deployments. You will be the technical lead for vendors, subcontractors, and our managed service provider, and the escalation point for the IT support staff you mentor. The work is hands-on execution and project leadership at the same time, and the outcomes are yours.
What You'll Do
Design and Build the Infrastructure
- Design, deploy, and maintain server, virtualization, storage, networking, firewall, and cloud infrastructure, and administer identity and access services including Active Directory, Entra ID, and Microsoft 365.
- Monitor system performance, capacity, and availability, and address constraints before they result in outages.
- Plan and execute upgrades, migrations, and cutovers with minimal disruption to the business.
Build Out the Physical Technology
- Design, deploy, and maintain physical technology systems across company buildings, including intrusion alarm, door access, camera, and A/V systems and their supporting network, from scope and layout through installation and commissioning.
- Serve as the technical lead for vendors, subcontractors, and our managed service provider, defining requirements, reviewing designs and submittals, coordinating site work, and verifying installations match what was specified.
Lead the Projects
- Lead complex IT projects spanning systems infrastructure and physical technology, including building buildouts, network infrastructure, A/V, surveillance, access control, alarm, server and virtual environments, cloud, and ERP deployments.
- Develop project plans, manage timelines and dependencies, coordinate internal resources and stakeholders, and surface technical challenges early.
Protect and Recover
- Support the company's cybersecurity program, owning patch management, server and endpoint hardening, and infrastructure security controls, and direct IT support staff through alerts, incidents, and remediation.
- Design, perform, and test backup and disaster recovery procedures, verifying that recovery objectives can be met.
- Maintain compliance with company policies and cybersecurity requirements.
- Document infrastructure architecture, configurations, and standards.
Automate, Advise, and Mentor
- Automate routine administration and provisioning through scripting and configuration management.
- Advise IT leadership on infrastructure capability, risk, and investment.
- Provide technical direction and mentorship to IT support staff, serving as the escalation point for issues they cannot resolve.
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field.
- Six (6) or more years of progressive IT experience, including at least four (4) years leading technical projects, initiatives, vendors, or IT teams.
- Advanced knowledge of Windows Server, Active Directory, and virtualization platforms such as VMware or Hyper-V.
- Demonstrated knowledge of networking, firewalls, cloud infrastructure, security fundamentals, backup, and disaster recovery.
- Hands-on experience deploying physical technology such as cameras, access control, alarm, or A/V systems, including coordinating the vendors and subcontractors who install them.
Preferred
- Relevant certifications such as Microsoft Azure Administrator or Solutions Architect, VMware VCP, or AWS Solutions Architect.
- Experience administering Microsoft 365 and Azure or AWS environments.
- PowerShell scripting and automation experience.
- Experience with enterprise application or ERP deployments.
- Experience supporting a cybersecurity program, including security controls, monitoring, and incident response.
- Experience supporting multi-site or field-based operations.
- Experience working alongside a managed service provider and low-voltage subcontractors.
We recognize that experience comes from many paths. An equivalent combination of education, certification, and experience that results in successful performance of the job is welcomed. Additional education may substitute for required experience on a one-for-one year basis, or vice versa.
Work Environment
This role is primarily desk-based in the office, with travel to company facilities and active jobsites to support deployments and oversee vendor and subcontractor installations. Hands-on periods in server and network rooms may require lifting up to 50 pounds, bending, and kneeling. Jobsite visits require personal protective equipment, and maintenance windows or system cutovers may occasionally fall outside standard business hours.
