The Opportunity

The Assistant Project Manager supports project managers across our fast-turn special projects work and carries smaller jobs of your own when assigned. You will scope work in the field, build pricing, keep the controls accurate, and coordinate with general contractors and the trade partners working alongside us.

Special projects move differently from large contract work. Jobs run from a few hundred thousand dollars into the millions, they move fast, and there is often no complete set of prints to work from. Some of it comes directly from the owner and some through a general contractor. Our model favors people who came up through the field, because you have to see the install in your head before you can scope it, price it, or execute it. You will mentor the project engineers you work alongside while building toward running your own book of work.

What You'll Do

Support the Project Managers

  • Assist project managers across the full project lifecycle, from the initial client walk-through through closeout.
  • Lead smaller projects under a project manager's oversight when assigned.
  • Assist with estimating new proposals and change orders.
  • Prepare Method of Procedures documents that give crews clear execution guidelines.

Scope and Price the Work

  • Walk jobs with clients to scope work, identify constraints, and visualize the install before drawings exist.
  • Build material and labor takeoffs and support proposal pricing.
  • Identify constraints and existing conditions that affect cost and sequence.

Run the Project Controls

  • Track project timelines and progress against milestones, and address issues before they affect the schedule.
  • Support project billing and budgeting, and process time and material vouchers.
  • Review purchase orders, submittals, and contracts, and maintain the change order log.

Coordinate and Develop

  • Coordinate with general contractors and trade partners, including mechanical, security, and fire subcontractors, to keep scopes aligned.
  • Mentor project engineers, sharing process knowledge and reviewing their work.
  • Conduct project meetings to review progress and resolve concerns.
  • Contribute to the evaluation and improvement of project workflows and processes.

Qualifications

Required

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Four (4) years of electrical construction experience, including hands-on field installation experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to scope work from a site walk without complete drawings.

Preferred

  • Journeyman-level electrical knowledge and field experience.
  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience estimating and pricing small to mid-size electrical projects.
  • Working knowledge of Viewpoint Vista, Procore, or McCormick Estimating.

We recognize that experience comes from many paths. An equivalent combination of education, certification, and experience that results in successful performance of the job is welcomed. Additional education may substitute for required experience on a one-for-one year basis, or vice versa.

Work Environment

This role is based in the office with frequent visits to active jobsites and client facilities. Work is primarily at a desk and on a computer, with regular time walking jobs to scope work and verify existing conditions. Site visits require personal protective equipment and bring exposure to noise, dust, and weather. Expect a fast-paced environment where priorities shift with client needs.
