
Senior Claims Liability Specialist

DriveWhip is a mobility provider in the Washington, DC area, with offices in multiple cities, including Atlanta, that Leases/Rents vehicles to Uber, Lyft and other On-Demand or Rideshare drivers. As a ground floor member of an exciting new company all associates will be tasked with a variety of responsibilities. An appreciation for the pros and cons of start up culture is a must.

Position Summary:
The Senior Claims Liability Specialist manages liability claims with bodily injury exposure from start to finish, including coverage verification, liability evaluation, injury assessment, and settlement or denial. This role requires strong judgment, attention to deadlines, and the ability to review and evaluate medical and subrogation documentation. The specialist ensures compliance with all timelines and manages each assigned claim through resolution.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities (include, but are not limited to the following):
- Investigate liability claims by gathering and reviewing police reports, statements, medical records, and supporting documentation.
- Confirm coverage under Whip’s membership agreements, TNC policies, and applicable state requirements.
- Evaluate liability and document clear, timely decisions supported by facts.
- Review and assess medical bills and treatment for accuracy, causation, and reasonableness.
- Set and adjust reserves as needed based on injury severity, treatment progress, and exposure.
- Analyze and respond to bodily injury demands, including evaluating settlement value ranges.
- Ensure all bodily injury demands are acknowledged and responded to within required deadlines.
- Recognize and escalate claims with significant injuries, litigation potential, or complex legal issues.
- Review and respond to inbound subrogation demands, validating estimates and supporting documentation.
- Coordinate with partner shops and occasional third-party shops on repair estimates and costs.
- Manage assigned claims through resolution, ensuring timely investigation, accurate documentation, and compliance with standards.
- Must be able to effectively manage a caseload of approximately 35–75 active claims at any given time.
- Accept and manage inbound transfers of claims that develop into BI exposure.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree preferred, or equivalent experience.
- 3–5+ years handling complex auto liability and bodily injury claims.
- Experience with TNC-related claims (Uber, Lyft) strongly preferred.
- Familiarity with PIP, UM, and relevant state statutes (VA, MD, GA, FL, IL, PA) is a plus.
Skills and Abilities:
- Strong investigative and analytical skills.
- Ability to review medical documentation and evaluate injury claims.
- Proficiency in setting and maintaining reserves.
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to deadlines.
- Proficiency with claims systems and collaboration tools (Google Suite, Slack, Zendesk, Textline).
Salary: $70,000 - $85,000; depending on experience.
Work Environment:
Typical work environment includes desktop computing work using typical desktop computing equipment (laptop, keyboard, mouse, monitors, desk, chair) in an office environment and/or remote workspace environment.
Physical Demands:
- Ability to sit and use typical desktop computing workspace equipment - e.g. mouse, keyboard, monitor, phone - for extended periods of time.
- Manual dexterity to operate a typical desktop computing workstation.
- Ability to communicate both verbally and in writing, using virtual meeting and communication tools such as email, Google Meet, and Slack.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 15 pounds, if required.
