Litigation Claims Specialist

DriveWhip is a mobility provider in the Washington, DC area, with offices in multiple cities, including Atlanta, that Leases/Rents vehicles to Uber, Lyft and other On-Demand or Rideshare drivers. As a ground floor member of an exciting new company all associates will be tasked with a variety of responsibilities. An appreciation for the pros and cons of start up culture is a must.

Position Summary:

The Litigation Claims Specialist manages high-exposure and litigated claims, serving as the primary contact for outside counsel and overseeing resolution strategy from intake through closure. This role involves direct negotiation with attorneys, evaluation of settlement opportunities, and litigation oversight to ensure claims are resolved efficiently, fairly, and in compliance with company standards.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities (include, but are not limited to the following):

  • Manage a portfolio of high-exposure and litigated claims.
  • Serve as the main liaison with outside counsel, providing direction on litigation strategy, discovery, and settlement opportunities.
  • Independently evaluate and negotiate settlements when outside counsel is not retained.
  • Review legal pleadings, discovery requests, and settlement demands for accuracy and alignment with claim strategy.
  • Establish, monitor, and adjust reserves based on litigation status, exposure, and potential outcomes.
  • Ensure all litigated files comply with state timelines, court deadlines, and company standards.
  • Maintain detailed claim notes, strategy documentation, and communication logs.
  • Identify and escalate cases that pose significant financial, reputational, or legal risk.
  • Must be able to manage a caseload of approximately 35–50 litigated and high-severity claims, in addition to assisting with other complex liability and BI files as needed for team balance.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree required; JD or advanced legal training preferred but not required.
  • 5+ years handling complex liability and bodily injury claims, including litigation management.
  • Demonstrated experience working directly with outside counsel and negotiating settlements.
  • Prior experience with rideshare/TNC claims (Uber, Lyft) strongly preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of state-specific litigation practices and liability statutes (VA, MD, GA, FL, IL, PA).

Skills and Abilities:

  • Advanced negotiation and litigation strategy skills.
  • Ability to evaluate complex legal and medical documentation.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills with attorneys and internal stakeholders.
  • High attention to deadlines, compliance standards, and financial accuracy.
  • Proficiency with claims systems and collaboration tools (Google Suite, Slack, Zendesk, Textline). 

Work Environment:

Typical work environment includes desktop computing work using typical desktop computing equipment (laptop, keyboard, mouse, monitors, desk, chair) in an office environment and/or remote workspace environment.

Physical Demands:

  • Ability to sit and use typical desktop computing workspace equipment - e.g. mouse, keyboard, monitor, phone - for extended periods of time.
  • Manual dexterity to operate a typical desktop computing workstation.
  • Ability to communicate both verbally and in writing, using virtual meeting and communication tools such as email, Google Meet, and Slack.

Salary: $70,000 - $85,000; depending on experience.
