Full Stack Developer
This is a Remote Position.
Position Summary: Whip is building the technology that runs a fast-moving automotive business, and we are looking for a Full-Stack Developer to help build, maintain, and evolve the systems behind it. You will join our internal Technology/Engineering team and work on the platforms our operations depend on every day.
This is not a role focused only on completing assigned development tickets. We are looking for a hands-on engineer who can understand complex business requirements, work independently,
make sound technical decisions, and take ownership of production systems from design through long-term support.
You will work directly with the Head of Technology and collaborate with internal stakeholders and external technical resources when needed. The work is visible: the features you ship are used internally, and the systems you own keep the business running.
The right candidate doesn't simply ask, "What should I code?" They understand the problem, evaluate the existing system, identify risks, propose a solution, execute it, and take responsibility for making sure it works reliably in production.
Above all, we want someone who can become a trusted internal technical owner.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities (include, but are not limited to the following):
Develop and maintain full-stack production applications and internal operational platforms.
- Take ownership of features from requirements and technical design through development, testing, deployment, and production support.
- Understand and improve existing codebases, databases, APIs, and system architecture.
- Build and maintain REST APIs, webhooks, third-party integrations, and automated workflows.
- Troubleshoot production issues and identify reliable long-term solutions.
- Work with relational databases, data migrations, backups, and system reliability.
- Participate in architecture, infrastructure, deployment, security, and scalability decisions.
- Maintain clear technical documentation and follow strong Git/development practices.
- Participate in project launches and technical discussions with business stakeholders.
- As the team grows, contribute to code reviews and engineering standards.
Qualifications Required:
- 5+ years of professional software development experience, preferably with significant full-stack responsibility.
- Strong experience with modern frontend development and backend/API development.
- Strong SQL and relational database knowledge.
- Experience building and integrating REST APIs, webhooks, and third-party services.
- Experience deploying and supporting applications in cloud/server environments.
- Strong understanding of Git and professional software development workflows.
- Proven ability to troubleshoot real production systems.
- Ability to independently analyze requirements and propose technical solutions.
- Strong sense of ownership, accountability, and attention to production reliability.
Professional working English is required.
The developer will primarily report directly to the Head of Technology, but must be comfortable communicating with U.S.-based stakeholders when necessary. This includes participating in project-launch meetings, explaining technical decisions or issues, providing project updates, and answering questions from non-technical stakeholders.
Native-level English is not required, but candidates must be able to communicate clearly and confidently in a professional business environment.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, or a related technical field; equivalent professional experience and a demonstrated track record will be considered in place of a degree.
- Minimum of five (5) years of professional software development experience, including significant full-stack ownership of production applications.
- Demonstrated experience supporting live systems in a business or operational environment, including on-call or production troubleshooting responsibility.
- Experience working on a distributed or remote engineering team, collaborating across time zones, is preferred.
- Relevant technical certifications (cloud platform, database administration, or application security) are a plus but not required.
Skills and Abilities:
- Proficiency in modern frontend frameworks and backend/API development.
- Strong SQL skills, including relational database design, query optimization, migrations, and backups.
- Ability to build, integrate, and maintain REST APIs, webhooks, and third-party services.
- Competence deploying, monitoring, and troubleshooting applications in cloud/server environments.
- Disciplined use of Git and professional development workflows, including clear and current technical documentation.
- Sound judgment in evaluating trade-offs across architecture, infrastructure, security, scalability, and reliability.
- Ability to work independently, manage competing priorities, and follow through without close supervision.
- Clear, professional written and verbal communication with both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Discretion and sound judgment when handling confidential company and customer data.
Work Environment:
Typical work environment includes desktop computing work using typical desktop computing equipment (laptop, keyboard, mouse, monitors, desk, chair) in an office environment and/or remote workspace environment.
Physical Demands:
- Ability to sit and use typical desktop computing workspace equipment - e.g. mouse, keyboard, monitor, phone - for extended periods of time.
- Manual dexterity to operate a typical desktop computing workstation.
- Ability to communicate both verbally and in writing, using virtual meeting and communication tools such as email, Google Meet, and Slack.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 15 pounds, if required.
- Reasonable accommodations will be made for qualified individuals with disabilities.
