Director of Retail Sales, Target

Minneapolis, Minnesota, United States

Why We Exist and What We Do:

At Dr. Squatch (www.drsquatch.com), we’re raising the bar on men’s personal care with our line of natural, high-performance products. We’re on a high-growth, fast-moving ride, continually introducing new product categories, launching into retailers nationwide, and growing internationally. We have been recognized and certified by Great Place to Work® multiple times, and we achieved status as a certified B Corp in 2023. We are looking for passionate, talented people who want to join us in our mission to inspire and educate men to be happier and healthier!

About the Role:

Dr. Squatch is looking for an experienced Director of Retail Sales to run our business at Target, one of our largest retail partners across multiple categories where we are a leading master brand. You will own the relationship, the P&L, and the strategy behind our next phase of growth.

This is a people-leadership role based in Minneapolis, MN, reporting to the Head of Club, Drug & Mass.

You will set account strategy, lead high-stakes negotiations, drive Joint Business Planning (JBP), and build the multi-year roadmap for distribution, space, and pricing. You will coach and develop a team, and work cross-functionally with Marketing, Product, Operations, Finance, and Marketplaces so Dr. Squatch wins at shelf and online.

The anticipated base compensation range for this role will be $170,000 to $215,000. Compensation will be commensurate with the candidate's experience and local market rates.

What You'll Do:

  • Own the Target account strategy across distribution, assortment and space, pricing, promotions, and digital, for all portfolio brands.
  • Lead the Joint Business Plan with Target and build the multi-year roadmap for growth.
  • Be the senior day-to-day relationship owner with Target's buyers and merchants across departments, and with planning, replenishment, marketing, and Roundel teams.
  • Lead high-stakes negotiations on price, promotional funding, and margin structure.
  • Own the account P&L: forecasting, trade spend efficiency, and investment ROI, and make sure trade funds are documented, paid, and reconciled.
  • Use syndicated and retailer data (Circana, NIQ, and Target POS) to read trends and shape strategy.
  • Lead, coach, and develop the Target team, including talent and succession planning.
  • Partner with Marketplaces and ecommerce on Target.com, digital shelf, and retail media (Roundel).
  • Drive in-store and out-of-aisle presence, including limited editions, IP partnerships, displays, and fixtures, and manage our broker and merchandising partners.
  • Represent Target in line reviews, S&OP, and executive business reviews, and be the internal voice of the retailer.
  • Own risk and escalation, including in-stock, forecast accuracy, resets, and competitive threats, with a clear point of view on trade-offs.
  • Partner with commercialization on flawless new item launches.

About You:

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • 10+ years of CPG sales or account management experience, with direct P&L or account-ownership responsibility.
  • Direct Target experience, including its buyer structure, JBP process, planning cadence, and supply chain. Minneapolis experience strongly preferred.
  • Proven people leadership: you know how to coach, develop, and build bench strength.
  • Track record of leading complex negotiations (pricing, promotional funding, and trade terms) and defending brand economics.
  • Fluency in retail P&L mechanics and syndicated data, and comfort presenting to executive leadership.
  • Understanding of Target.com, omnichannel retail, and Roundel.
  • Experience managing brokers and third-party merchandising partners at scale.
  • Experience across large established brands and high-growth companies. Scaling a brand is a big plus.
  • Excellent executive communication and negotiation skills.
  • Someone who gets things done without perfect resources, has high standards and a sense of urgency, takes ownership, helps others, stays positive, and has a good sense of humor.
