You will...
- Work with dedicated researchers, engineers, and designers to bring groundbreaking assessment instruments to life
- Collaborate in the development and auditing of English assessment content (including qualitative and quantitative studies of new, interactive item formats)
- Help develop quality control processes to monitor item bank health
- Conduct studies related to the validity, reliability, and fairness of test scores
- Share Duolingo English Test research findings through blogs, technical reports, conference presentations (LTRC, AAAL, LARC, etc.), and peer-reviewed journals (Language Testing, Applied Linguistics, Language Assessment Quarterly, etc.)
You have...
- Must have a PhD in language testing, applied linguistics, second language acquisition, or a related field
- 3+ years of work experience in language assessment (academia or industry)
- Outstanding interpersonal communication and organizational skills
- Experience developing and/or conducting research on high-stakes language assessments, or other meaning professional experience
- Research expertise and publication / presentation record in the field of language assessment
- Experience with large language models for content generation and a general knowledge of machine learning, natural language processing and other technologies in language testing
- Familiarity with standard language proficiency frameworks (CEFR preferred)
- A desire to make the world a better place through technology
- Ability to work from or relocate to Pittsburgh, PA
Exceptional candidates will have...
- 5+ years of post-PhD experience working in an education-related field
- Excellent skills in data analysis tools, such as R and Python
- Experience with the design and development of computer-adaptive tests
- Proficiency in more than one language

We post a multi-level salary range for all of our roles.
This is not inclusive of the rest of our awesome portfolio that includes equity compensation and world-class benefits. Our salary ranges are the same for all US locations. Your recruiter can share more details about the range for a specific level during the hiring process. The actual salary within the range is determined by many factors including but not limited to, skills, experience, education, and internal equity.
Salary Range:
$102,000 - $210,000 USD
