About The Role...
This role reports to the Director of Design Infrastructure and as a member of the Design team, the instrumental creative partner in most projects at Duolingo—from our mobile apps and website to the brand voice and email newsletters. At Duolingo, we take pride in and agonize over crafting a user-friendly (and fun) experience for everyone.
You Will...
- Expand and detail Duolingo’s design system across iOS, Android, and web platforms
- Work alongside Engineering to maintain parity between Figma component libraries and production code
- Document, broadcast, and advocate for design system decisions and changes across the Design, Engineering, and Product functions
- Empower more designers with prototyping systems & tools (Origami, Protopie or similar)
- Champion our high bar for quality and craft, and give designers and engineers the tools and systems they need to meet our bar, quickly
- Identify and eliminate design inconsistencies in the product
You Have...
- Experience initiating or getting support for a new design system at scale, preferably at a consumer tech company
- A robust online portfolio that displays examples of system design, product design (especially mobile), and a highly-developed eye for design detail, consistency, and quality
- Expertise in one or two prototyping tools, like Origami, Protopie or InVision
- A talent for bringing order and process to ambiguous or casual workflows
- The ability to relocate or work out of our New York, NY office
Exceptional Candidates Will Have...
- Experience building iOS or Android apps
- Interest or experience managing people
- Experience with illustration, animation or motion design

We post a multi-level salary range for all of our roles.
This is not inclusive of the rest of our awesome portfolio that includes equity compensation and world-class benefits. Our salary ranges are the same for all US locations. Your recruiter can share more details about the range for a specific level during the hiring process. The actual salary within the range is determined by many factors including but not limited to, skills, experience, education, and internal equity.
Salary Range:
$144,500 - $294,000 USD
